The track meet is held each year to com- memorate the death of two young athletes — Robert Appleton and Alison Parrott. The Wingham youngsters turned in some fine performances, earning five medals and 45 personal bests. Jeff Hollenbeck earned the gold medal in the Midget boys' shot put with a throw of 13.63 metres. Shawn Gedeke leaped 4.68m in the Atom boys' long jump to earn a silver medal. He also ran a strong 800m in 2:38 minutes to earn the fifth -place ribbon. The Atom boys' team of Gedcke Travis Baier, Shawn Daw and Ryan Leibold was fourth and Leibold was sixth in the 800m. In the Mite girls' division, Christa Pegg added a personal best leap of 2.87m in the long jump for a bronze medal. Teammate Janet Lisle ran a strong 200m race in 38.5 seconds to earn a sixth-place ribbon. The Mite girls' 4 X 100 relay team of Pegg, Lisle, Jennifer Pike and Chrissy Kerr earned a third-place ribbon. Julie Lisle, in her first year as an Atom girl, showed some fine athletic abilities with a leap of 1.30m in the high jump to earn a sixth-place ribbon and jumped well in the long - jump event with 4.44m to earn a sixth-place ribbon. The Atom girls' medley team of Lisle, Wendy Finley, Ibukun Omole and Carolyn Pike was third. Mary Lisle, in her first year competing as a Tyke girl, showed fine form in the high jump and long jump of 3.55m to earn two sixth- place ribbons. The Tyke girls' 4 X 200 relay team of Lisle, Heather. Finley and Melissa Evers was third. In -the Tyke girls' 1,500m, Lesley Pike earned a fourth - place ribbon and Evers was fifth. Michael Nolan was sixth in the Tyke boys' high jump. Carla Mowbray was sixth in the Bantam girls' triple jump. (P.B.), long jump, 2.41m, 4 X 100 relay, third; Deborah Pike, long jump, 2.43m (P.B.), 4 X Lynda Harkness wins three medals at track meet Lynda Harkness of Wingham's Maitland Athletics Club won two gold and one silver medal at the annual Appleton -Parrott Cup meet at Toronto last weekend. The meet is a qualifying com- petition for the International Youth Meet of Champions to be held this Aug. 4, 5 and 6 in Toronto. Harkness, who is 13 years old, showed excellent form in the three throwing events, breaking her own f personal records, while qualifying. Her discus throw of 32.33 metres., 3 earned her a gold medal and so did. her shot put effort of 9.81m. The silver came in the javelin with a toss P of 21.78m.
