The afternoon unit of the UCW served a delicious roast beef dinner to 75 mothers, daughters, grandmothers and guests. Mrs. Lillian Seifried, public relations officer, of Palmerston and Mrs. Sharon Greenwood, District Commissioner, attended as special guests. Mrs. Gertie Heimpel proposed the toast to the Queen. After dinner the program consisted of girls receiving the badges they had earned. Mrs. Bruce Kennedy and Laurie Schneider, Guide leader, presented Kathy Kennedy and Coreen Harding with their all-round cords. They are now ready for Pathfinders. Kathy Kennedy, Susan Heimpel, Natacha Mertick and Reta Van Den Broek received gifts for selling the most cookies, Mrs. Doug King, Mrs. Wayne Nickel and Mrs. Leach conducted the fly -up program for Brownies moving up to Guides. Each Brownie was presented with the badges she had earned and all the Brownes sang the Brownie Honer Song and bade a musical good-bye to the girls flying up. Mrs. Greenwood announced there will be a new pre -Brownie group formed if leaders can be found. Mrs. Jean Clarkson showed slides of the pretty village of Fordwich and other points of interest and the meeting closed with Taps. , - • • , • . , -'••! -~ • 4.• •A ' F.: • . 1,• • Last card party of the season has 12 tables FORDWICH—The last card party until fall was held Friday night, May 27, in the community hall, sponsored by the Women's Institute: There were 12 tables in play. Winners for high scores were Ross Lee and Minnie McElwain. Consolation winners were Louise Sangster and Leonard Wetham and special prizes went to Pauline Richards, Alma Hargrave, Jean Clarkson, Elva Cooper and Hazel Seiler. School teacher is speaker at WI meeting FORDWICH — Fifteen members and one guest attended the May meeting of the Howick Junior Wo- men's Institute held recently at the Howick Central School. The guest speaker, Marilyn Elgie, a primary school resource teacher at Howick, presented a very in - for -I -native program on the topic, "Mom, There's Nothing to Do". She gave members many useful ideas for ways to entertain children on rainy days or when they become bored. She set up tables of various activities, including crafts, cooking and books, to name a few. Mary Hall introduced the speaker and Catherine Stewart thanked her nd presented her with a gift. The roll was answered with "A pecial outing or activity you have lanned for this summer". Members ill be taking part in many family- entred activities, including visits to anada's Wonderland, the Metro 00 and staying at the cottage. Brenda Bunker reported that a uccessful plant and bake sale was eld at the Fordwich hall recently. 11 the baking Was sold and only a w plants were left. The Junior WI's annual Senior itizens' Tea will be held in the orrie United Church on June 22 om 2 to 4 p.m. All seniors in the wnship are invited to attend. Marg Greig and Mrs. Hall will do a emotional poster to put up in local raries to promote the work of the nior Institute as this is its tenth niversary. Charter members will invited to attend the anniversary nner June 15 in Listowel. The program for the 1988-89 year s presented and members lunteered to help with specific eetings.
