In view of the assurance by every
member of council at your May
meeting that the cenotaph would be
respected and preserved, it is
expected that council will now
announce that the cenotaph lot will
not be cut up for commercial
development.
At a time when it was believed
that there might be surplus land
available in the area which did not -
infringe on the cenotaph, the interest
of the prospective buyer could be
understood. However, it is a matter
of concern to learn from the site plan
suppplied, that new lines have been
added to indicate that someone is
still thinking in terms of sale of a
portion of the cenotaph lot even now
that the facts are known.
This matter has been reviewed by
a general meeting of Branch 180 of
the Royal Canadian Legion and we
are still firmly opposed to the sale of
any of the war memorial land.
