Mrs. Tiffin hosts
meeting of WMS
Whitechurch — Chalmers
Women's Missionary Society held its
meeting on Wednesday, May 18, at
the home of Mrs. Wes Tiffin, with 11
answering the roll call. Mrs. Hugh
Simpson and Mrs. William Purdon
were leaders.
The aim and purpose of the WMS
was repeated by all and call to
worship given by Mrs. Simpson.
Mrs. Purdon read Psalm 113 and
gave the meditation, "A Woman's
Rights". Mrs. Ross and Mrs.
Milligan gave readings. Roll call
was answered by each member
naming a mother of the Bible and
Mrs. Simpson spoke about
"Mothers".
The minutes were read by Mrs.
Neilson. It was announced that a
cleaning bee will be held at the
church on Wednesday, May 25,
beginning at 9 _a.m. Hymns were
sung and the meeting closed with
prayer.
The Ladies' Aid meeting followed,
' with discussion on the souvenirs for
the 125th anniversary of the church
next year. Mrs. Simpson closed with
prayer, Grace was sung and Mrs. s
Tiffin served refreshments. Mrs.
Norma Rintoul thanked the leaders
of the Meeting and expressed grati- v
tude to Mrs. Tiffin for her w
hospitality. fu

wins scholarship
The Bruce County Ontario Wo
men's Institute. Scholarship for 19
has been awarded to Miss Terri
Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs,
Robert G. Johnson of Kinloss.
Terri has been involved in 4-H
Clubs for eight years and has
completed 15 projects. She has
received her County and Provincial
Awards. During her 4-H work, she
has participated in all activities and
completed one Youth Leadership
Course. She has been helpful with
younger members and has been a
willing volunteer.
Terri is presently a student in
Grade 13 at Kincardine District
Secondary School where she is an
honor student, tutors in many
subjects, belongs to soccer and
basketball teams, dance club and
was a Rotary exchange student. She
is also active in her community,
helping at community suppers and -
fund-raisers, speaking to groups an
teaching Sunday School. She is
lifeguard and a swimming in

report by Mrs. Howard Harrison
said that Point Clark will be open in
June, also there were 16,504 ad-
missions in Southampton in 1987.

"Educate -- Initiate", held at
Queen's University, Kingston, three
days last week. Ontario Environ-
ment Minister Jim Bradley was the
guest speaker Saturday evening.
"Waste Management and
Recycling" will be the theme of the
Friday at the same home.
Robert Gibson underwent eye
surgery Friday at St. Joseph's
Hospital, London.
Nancy and Jeff Nay and
Christopher of Kitchener spent the
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nay.
The Gorrie branch of the Canadian
Cancer Society is pleased to report
hat more than $1200 has been
ollected in this area and is very
grateful for all the volunteers' help.

presented by grandchildren.
Celebrating a 60th wedding an-
niversary were Mrs. Stockton's
brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Stewart McKenzie. Also at-
tending was a sister, Ruth McKenzie
of Ottawa. Unable to be present due
to ill health was her sitter,
Margaret.
Rev. Donald Pugh officiated at the
christening of Kyle Brian Welsh, son
of Brian and Jill Welsh, at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Strong on
Sunday. Honored guest was Kyle's
great-grandmother, Mrs. John
Strong of Gorrie.

All refuse must be on the side of the road by
8:00-a.m. on that date. All other forms of rubbish
will not be collected and must be prepared for regu-
lar garbage pickup.
