Mrs. Robertson's Kindergarten
has been watching for signs of
spring. Mrs. Graham recently
helped make flower gardens for
their bulletin board and they are
looking forward to having the com-
puter in their room for one of their
activity centres.

Mrs. Kerr's Grade 1 is busy
working on their spring units. They
are learning about time in math and
are writing about birds.
Nine of the Gr r ° is sang in the
primary choir aAci placed first in the
Walkerton Festival. They are doing
stories and making up their own ani-
mals while happily growing bean
plants.

Th,! Grade 3-4 class is working on
their circus unit! They have made
up poems, pop-up books, murals and
pictures.
Some of the pupils sang solos at
the Walkerton Music Festival. These
pupils were Kelly Alexander, Erin
Elston, Laura O'Hagan, Paul
Vaudry, Steven Mowbray, Joey
Carter, Arlene McKeon, Andrea Mc-
Bride and Kelly Neil.

Mrs. Schedler's class won first
place at the music festival. They
-4riive enjoyed Nao's
slides from his country, Japan. They
received more letters from the pen
pals.
Later this week they expect a
visitor from the Ministry of Natural
Resources who will be talking to
them about wildlife management.

Mr. Shaw's class dressed up on
May 2 for their graduation pictures.
They all looked great. The opening
of the trout season brought smiles to
many faces. We would like to thank
the Optimists for their contest. Mr.
Shaw showed the students the pro-
per way to clean a fish, cook it and
take the meat off the bones. We all
tasted the cooked trout.
Congratulations to Leya deBruyn,
Carla Mowbray, Beth Ward and
Shannon Robinson for their efforts
at the Walkerton Music Festival.

Placing first in their categories in
vocal solos at the festival were Julie
Lisle, Todd Schenk, Mary Lisle,
Devin Chaulk, David Bower, Shan-
non Simpson and Ansley Simpson.
Placing second were Kelly Alex-
ander, Maria Gibbons, Marc Poulin
and Katie Elmslie. Placing third
were Joey Carter, LeeAnne Carter,
Laura O'Hagan, Beth Ward, Steven
Mowbray, Jonathan Gibbons, Ken-
neth MacTavish, Lisa Alexander,
Lesley Pike, Carla Mowbray and
Carolyn Pike.
The primary choir, directed by
Mrs. Schedler, placed first singing
"Bessie the Black Cat". The junior
,choir, directed by _Mrs. ,-Schedler-,--
placed second singing "All the
Pretty Little Horses". Other prize
winners were Mrs. MacRae's Grade
1, first, singing "Kitty's Tongue";
Mrs. Wilson's Grade 2, first, singing
"Two Little Kittens"; Miss Rennie's
Grade 3, third, singing "Bears" and
Mrs. Schedler's Grade 5, first,
singing "Kids Are Music".

Last week the Kindergarten class-
es went to Zehrs in Listowel and had
an excellent tour. We all appreciated
the yummy doughnuts given to us.
Afterwards we came back and set up
our own classroom store for a play
centre.
It's really spring! Grade 1 is busy
getting ready for track and field.
Some are jumping quite high at the
high jump, even the teachers have
been seen sailing over the bar! We
were busy last week making
Mother's Day surprises. We are be-
coming interested in dinosaurs,
having watched two super dinosaur
films. We plan to study them in
depth later in June.
The Grade 4s have just started
division. Our ocean unit is complete
and we are working on our safety
posters.

The Grade 2s enjoyed working on
their dinosaur centres with Miss
McKinnon, Mrs. Alcock and Miss
Sanderson. They are writing dino-
saur stories, making dinosaur pop-
up fact sheets and participating in
dinosaur drama activities,
LIBRARY REPORT
The Grade 7s and 8s are research-
ing France and Quebec during their
French classes and they seem to be
enjoying themselves. The Grade 2s
are researching dinosaurs and are
finding out lots about them. The
other Grade 7 class is researching
musical instruments and com-
posers. We have also just finished up
the oceans unit.

Mr. Meartens' Grade 4 class has
almost finished the authors day
book. We have started division in
math. We have a camping trip
coming up. We're going to go to
Carnp Wyoka somewhere near Clif-
ford.

Mrs. Creeden's Grade 5 and 6
class last week finished their oceans
unit, with a seafood taste test.

Mr, Raynard's Grade 8 class and
Mr. Livermore's Grade 5 class are
hard at work on their gymnastics
presentations. Last week they were
busy constructing and perfecting
pyramids.
Members of the senior choir gave
a concert at the Fordwich Nursing
Home on the afternoon of Wednes-
day, May 4. The Grade 7 and 8 band
also performed at the Walkerton
Festival last Thursday. Some stu-
dents from our class have done very
well individually. Carey King
earned a first, second and two
thirds. Brenda Baumgarten placed
first and second for piano solos.

PRIMARY
The Grade 1 class is doing a unit
on hospitals. Last week they had a
nurse in to visit them and this week
they are going to the hospital for a
tour. They are building hospitals out
of blocks and boxes in the sand.
They also are starting a unit on
frogs. They even have a jar of tad-
poles in their classroom.

JUNIORS
School trips are on the verge of
breaking into the scene at Tur-
nberry. The Grade 4-5 class will be
joining the Grade 5-6 class for a trip
to the Metro Zoo in Toronto and I
understand the other classes also

INTERMEDIATES
The last two months of school have
started to be very busy. The students
in Grades 6 to 8 are preparing for an
operetta entitled "Going West". The
parts have been given out and we
are now having practices.
The Grade 7s and 8s are looking
forward to a camping trip on May 17
and 18. We are going to Camp
Menesetung at Goderich and will be
sleeping in cabins.
The bordenball tournament is just
a few days away and the teams have
been picked.
