NURSES WANTED
In a December, 1923, edition of
The Wingham Advance -Times, an
advertisement wand at the Buffalo
City Hospital in buffalo, New York.
It was a three-year registered
course, fitting fitipils for bedside,
public health and administrative
nursing. Salary- would be $15
month, with food, lodging, uniforms,
laundry and books famished free;
straight eight-hotr duty; no split
watches and one whole day\aff every
seven days. ,

Spring beauty
is UCW theme
Whitechurch—The United Church
Women met Wednesday, May 4, at
the home of Mrs. Clifford Laidlaw,
Mrs. Garnet Farrier opened the
meeting with a reading, "God Who
Touches Everything with Beauty"
and the hymn, "For the Beauty of
the Earth", was sung,
Mildred McClenaghan read scrip-
ture from Ecclesiastes, chapter
three and gave the meditation, 'The
Beauty of Spring". Mrs. Farrier led
in prayer and gave a reading on
"Mothers".
Mrs. Russell Chapman read the
minutes of the last meeting. Eleven
answered the roll call by contribut-
ing an interesting item to the meet-
ing. Miss McClenaghan and Mrs.
Chapman gave a dialogue, "If God
Should Speak", based on The Lord's
Prayer.
After the business was dealt with,
Mrs. Farrier thanked the hostess
and closed the meeting with prayer.
Grace was sung and the host.s
served lunch.

Men and women in health care have for centuries
ministered to alleviate suffering and illness, and
promote health; and
in the Province of Ontrario nurses have made very
realistic efforts as member of the health care team
to serve all citizens; and
in this community nurses have maintained a re
cord of dedicated service; and,
the Ontario Nurses' Association has over 46,000
members dedicated to providing essential health
care in hospitals, nursing homes, chronic facilities
and the community; and
WHEREAS members of the Ontario Nurses' Association are
dedicated to maintaining high professional stan-
dards in all areas of nursing practice,
NOW, THEREFORE the week of May eighth, nineteen hundred and
eighty-eight will be observed as Nurses' week in this community and
nationally, during which time recognition of the many services,of
nurses may be duly noted by all community members,
