CAiOIAN AtIMADETS
543 $' OUADRON, WtN HAM
by Rudy Hoothrfan
The, epnc1Usion,of=several events
dominated the general parade in the
Armouries last Wednesday evening.
The senior cadets who have been.
taking the St. John Ambulance first
aid course for the 4 t month did
their final exami o 4 on. Linder the
leadership of Shirley and Bill
Hanula, these squadron members
finished the practical part of the
exam begun last week and wrote the
written tests. The knowledge gained
from this course is an asset to any
cadet and may prove to be ex-
tremely useful in future emergency
situations. The cadets will know
tomorrow how successful they were
in their examinations.
As well, the junior cadets who
were being instructed in the
orienteering course by Lt. Robert
Bregman during the month of April
wrote a final test on everything they
had learned. The course teaches the
cadets to become proficient in skills
involving geography, mathematics,
decision-making, self-confidence
aria leadership. The practical nature
of this course will become evident to
these cadets when they will be at-
tending their camps this summer.
A kit inspection took place also.
All cadets had to bring .the gear
issued to them and, physically
demonstrate _their possession of it.
Cadet clothing, boots, belts, etc., are
issued free of charge but must be
inspected at stipulated intervals.
Cadets can exchange, clothing for
larger sizes or.have worn-out
materials replaced at any regular
parade,
Captain Earl Mino, commanding
officer of 543 Squadron, announced

THE NEW LAW
A new abortion law currently is
being drafted for Canada as the
Supreme Court struck down a
Section of the Criminal Code related
tO abortion in January.
"You can't expect too much from
this new law," Mr. Packer warned
the approximately 200. people at the
meeting. He even predicted abortion
clinics springing up in the future
called, "Mr. Abortion, along the
lines of Mr. Submarine".
.. It will not be easy to be pro-life
supporters in the years to come, he
said. "You will have to risk going to
jail somewhere along the line and
that's a horrible price."
"As my case shows, as soon as you
come up against abortion, you come
up against some incredibly powerful
and maligned interests."
Although he probably Will not get
back his Metro Police job,' Mr.
Packer said, "I've won. I don't have
to be involved in this carnage."
