EDUCATION WEEK was celebrated at the Howick Central School by the Grades '3 to 6 student's who
nnk a special unit on oceans. Teacher Alex Hutchison helped students Jennifer Cook, Grace Korporaat
and Jeff Keil with their research on seashells.
JamOs R. Coultes was.:
native of Wawanosh
A native of the tenth concession of
East Wawanosh Township, James
R. Coultes passed away last
Monday, April 18, at Wingham and
District Hospital. He was in his 83rd
year.
Born Aug. 8, 1905, in East
Wawanosh, Mr. Coultes was the son
of the .late George Coultes
_
Jennie Leaver. He attendedturrie's
School before starting his mixed
farming operation, retiring to 370
Shuter Street, Wingham, in 1978.
He was a member of Calvin Brick
United Church.
Left to mourn his passing is his
wife, the former Edythe Arbuckle;
one •daughter, Brenda Collins of
Thamesford and two sons, Wayne
and Anne Coultes of Wingham and
Bryan and Yvonne Coultes of East
Wawanosh. Six grandchildren,
Angela, Jason, Brandon and Aaron
_Coultes, and Taraand 0.yne
Collins, Will miss him.
Mr. Coultes also is survived by one
sister, Agnes Gaunt and one brother;
Norman Coultes, both of Wingham.
He was predeceased by his brother
Albert in 1985.

is remembered by many
A gentleman who farmed for
many years on the first concession
of Morris Township and is
remembered with fondness by many
friends and relatives, William Ross
Abraham of Brookhaven passed
away Saturday, April 23, m his 72nd
year.
Ross Abraham was born in Wing -
ham on May 12, 1916, a son of the late
William Abraham and Mary Ait-
chison. He is survived by his aunt,
Mrs. Earl (Dorothy) Aitchison of
Dundas. He was the dear friend of

Puddicombe and Harvey Mann of
Midland welcome with love their
son, Steven Ross Mann, born Feb. 10
at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. An
11th grandchild for Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Puddicombe of Penetang and a
first grandson for Lolo Mann of
Wingham.
SQUIRES — Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Squires of Wingham proudly an-
nounce the birth of their son,
Andrew Willie*, nine pounds, two
ounces, on April 16 at Wingharn and
District Hospital. A brother for
Sara.
SCHWARTZENTRUBER —Mr. and
Mrs. John SchwartzentrUber, RR 5,
Brussels, are happy to announce the
birth of their son, Jonathan Mark,
April, 20 at Wingham and District
Hospital, tipping the scales at an
even six pounds. A brother for
Jererrty and Amanda.
Peter and Isabel Campbell of RR 4,
Wingham. Ross is also survived by
several cousins and is fondly
remembered by his neighbors on the
first concession of Morris.
Friends paid their respects at The
McBurney Funeral Home, Wing -
ham, until Monday when funeral
service was held at 2:30, conducted
by Rev. Bonnie Lamble of Bluevale
United Church where deceased was
a member. Final resting place will
be Wingham Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wilfred Haines,
Glen Casemore, Dan Campbell,
Jack Glousher, Ross Goll and Jim
Johnston. Floral tributes were
carried by Harold Johnston and
John Haines,

stock of 91 King St., Milton, formerly
of Fordwich, passed away at Milton
District Hospital :in her 79th year.
She is survived §3r One daughter,
Mrs. Joan Bateman of Ethel; four
grandchildren and eight' great-
grandchildren. She was predeceased
by her husband, Trevelyn Hainstock
(1979) „ one 'sister, Ada Keith and one
brother, Roy Gadke. Funeral ser-
vice was conducted April 22 at two
o'clock by Rev. Don Beck at the
Gorrie Chapel of M. L. Watts
Funeral Homes. Interment followed
in Fordwich Cemetery.
Friends paid their respects at The
McBurney Funeral Home,
Wingham, last Tuesday from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 p.m. A complete funeral
service was conducted last
Wednesday, April 20, by Rev. John
G. Roberts, Belgrave. Interment
Wingham Cemetery.
Honorary, pallbearers were
friends and neighbors of Mr. Coultes
from the farm and from his years in
town, Lloyd Montgomery, John L.
Currie, Richard Moore, Ronald
Coultes, Ed Rich and Howard
Walker.

A Hamilton minister, Rev. Robert
H. Armstrong, was elected
Moderator at the 94th annual
meeting of the Synod of Hamilton
and London held at St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church in October- of
1967. It had been 29 years since
Synod had met in Wingham. They
were welcomed by minister of the
church, Rev. Gordon Fish, who
would be- succeeded by Mr. Arm-
strong at St. Andrew's.
