The All -Ontario Bantam
series ended victoriously for the
Howick Bantams on April 15, as they
defeated Norwood for the champion-
ship. The tream received the Ken G.
Waters Trophy for the win.
The sixth game, required to com-
plete the series, which ended in a tie
after five games, was won by How -
ick with a score of 6-2.
Norwood had a short-lived lead
when Dave Stewart scored on a
power play at the 21/2 -minute mark
in the first period. This goal was
quickly followed by a perfect two on
one executed by Howick's Steve Gib-
son and Chris Reichard, making the
most of a man advantage. Reichard
tipped the final pass by NorWood's
goalie, Dave Crawford.
Norwood took two foolish penalties
thelast minute which resulted in
two quick power play_ goals for

morale heading into the second
frame.
Second Period
Philip Livermore won the face-off
cleanly to Jaret Henhoeffer whose
drop pass to Gibson on the point re-
sulted in a hard blast by Crawford in
net.
Gibson's second goal in less than a
minute was aLso the result of a can-
non from the point. Qitig King and
John "Greig drew assists on the
power play goal.
Four minutes into the second
• period Philip Livermore scored
Howick's fourth power play goal
When he tipped in a hard Slap shot by
Gibson from the neat.
Each team had only four skaters
when Andrew Weber scored on a re-
bound off a John Greig shot to give
Howick a 5-1 lead at the halfway
mark of the period.
Brian Sinclair reducedthe lead hy
one with a power play goal.
Some fine passing by Philip Liver-
more, Gibson and Jason Douglas
resulted in Howick's fifth power play
goal with two minutes remaining in
the period.
Douglas blasted another shot high
into the corner of the net by Craw-
ford who didn't see the puck coming.
The goal gave Howick a seemingly
second 6-2 lead, however, Howick's
three defencemen Gibson, Douglas
and Craig King all drew minor
penalties putting the team short-
handed for over three minutes of
play.
The next, four minutes were
pivotal for both teams and could
have easily influenced the outcome
of the game.
Coach Ron Livermore moved
wingers Reichard and Donald Liver-
more back to play defence with King
during the tense situation.
The three were superior in their
defensive roles. With a quick ro-
tation of forwards Greig, Hen-
hoeffer, Weber and Philip Liver-
more, the defensive triangle was
executed perfectly during the last
minute of the second period and just
three ntinutes of the third.
The Howick squad held the Nor-
wood shooters as Peter .Stewart
stopped fear or five excellent oppor-
tunities for goats.
