orkshaps wilt focus on
child sexual abuse Issue.
Child sexual abuse is the subject of
two one -day workshops to be
presented by the Huron County
Community Child Abuse Co-
ordinating Committee (CCACC).
The workshops, April 22 and 25,
will be conducted by two specialists
in the treatment of child sexual
abuse and are offered to social
service' providers in Huron County
and the surrounding area,
Approximately 100 service
providers are expected to attend the
two workshops.
Margaret Bogue, a social worker
in a private practice in Toronto who
special es ; in therapy groups for
sexually abused children and their
families, will discuss treatment
issues related to older school chil-
dren and adolescents and their
families,
Dr. Darlene Hall, director of the
parenting child abuse treatment
programs at the Rotary. Creche and
Family Clinic in Toronto, will focus
on issues related to preschool and
early school • children and their
families.
Both speakers will discuss the
treatment' of sexually abused chil-
dren, parents who sexually abuse
their children, and non -offending
parents who may or may not " be
aware of the abuse. Dr. Hall will
suggest ways workshop attendants
can rule out false allegations of
sexual .abuse,. a problem which
received much media attention
earlier this year- when a Toronto -
area girl falsely accused her teacher
of sexual abuse.
Carl DeGrandis, ° CCACC chair-
man, said the committee is pleased
to bring such high calibre speakers
to Huron County. Since service ,
providers are becoining more and
more awareof cb}ldren who haave.I
been sexually abased, they need to
know more about the dynamics iof
sexually abusive families and howto
treat them. "Dr. Hall and Ms. Bogue
have a great deal of experience with
these families and a wealth- of in
formation to share with service
- providers in this county." .
The Ontario Ministry of Copmu-
nity ' ant Social Services ..haetl
provided :a - grant to allow 'Huron
County service providers to attend
the workshops at no c
p barge.
