The students are writing Easter poems and books for Author's Day. — Michelle MacDonald This week the Grade 5s have just finished writing letters to their penpals in Toronto. They are planning to meet them in the spring. Last Thursday, the class presented a musical program at the Day Centre for the Homebound, along . with the Easter Bunny, who brought treats for everyone! They are also anxiously awaiting Author's Day. —Shannon Robinson Mr. Lisle's Grade 6 is just getting back into the swing of things. They are starting to make books for Author's Day and are also doing book reports. Everyone has said they had a great March break. — Beth Ward Mrs. Overholt's students recently started swimming on Tuesdays. They have been making chocolate eggs with yellow yokes. Last Wednesday, the class went bowling and Daniel had the high score, — Brad Hunter Mr. Morton's Grade 7-8 curling bonspiel was on March 11 and 25. After one round, Team 1 looked as if it had things wrapped up, but in round two, Team 5 came back and beat Team 1 to win by one point. The students on Team 5 were Ken Hogg, Bruce Tanner, Amy -Jo Cretier and Amy MacDonald. Team 1 members were Bart Cameron, David Bower, Kendra Machan and Tharen Keil. All the students enjoyed their days spent curling. — Chris Martin On March 22, Mrs. Graham, Huron County art consultant, came to our classroom to teach the students some different art techniques. After the youngsters had learned all of the techniques, they were assigned to draw two small pictures using these techniques. All of the pictures turned out well and we thank Mrs. Graham for coming to the classroom to teach these techniques in art. The students are going to par- ticipate in the Canada Fitness Test for our physical education program. The students taking part in the science fair from our classroom are putting their finishing touches on the projects. The science fair was held last Wednesday. The students now are finished their VIP course that was run by Constable Tom Creeden and Mr. Lisle. Many thanks are extended to them for running this extension program. In this program, we talked about drugs, peer pressure, young offenders and youth and the law. — Ryan Deyell Last Tuesday, Mr. Hutchinson's class went to Toronto on a school field trip. While there, they went to the "Tour of the Universe", up the CN Tower and took a subway to the Eaton's Centre. ' — Richard McKeon The Wingham Public School held its annual science fair last week. All of the projects were well done and all of the students put forth a great effort. The winners for Grade 7 physical were: first, Shari Mundell and Amy Jo Cretier, "Color"; second, Wendy McBride, "Perfume" and third, Jenna Ruttart;. "Water". The winners in the Grade 7 biological category were; tint, 'Dodd Harrison, "Meal Worms'' 9 second, David Bower and Ken Hogg, "Teeth" and third, Kerri McGrath, "Taste aste Buds". Mark Steffen and Rob Metcalfe won in the computer category with their project on "Telecom- munications". The Grade 8 physical winners were: first, Michelle MacDonald, "Shampoo"; second, Scott Gillespie, "Steam" and third, Caroline Wat- son, "Sound". The Grade 8 biological division was won by Lynda Harkness and Tina Kotsanis with their project on "Moulds", while Leya deBruyn and Beth Ward were second with "Kitty Kibbles" and Tim Altman won third with "Body Building". Mrs. Edward Watson of Blyth were •Saturday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Johnston. Brittany MacLennan of Listowel spent a few days last week with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Michie. Friends and neighbors gathered Friday evening, March 25, at the home of Michael and Joanne Ryan of RR 4, Brussels, for a social evening. A purse of money was presented to the Ryan family, following the total loss of their barn and livestock due to fire.. Mrs. J. Coultas wins high prize BEL G RAV — E Mrs. Janisa Coultes won the prize for high lady at the weekly euchre party in the WI Hall on March 30. Twelve tables were in play. The man with the highest score was George Johnston. Low scores won prizes for Mrs. Laura Johnston and Mrs. Iona McLean (playing as a man). Mrs. Viola Adams and Clarence Hanna had the most lone hands and lucky draws were won by Mrs. Garner Nicholson and Jack Taylor. There will be euchre again on Wednesday, April 6, starting at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Huron County nurses sponsor writing contest. With this in mind, the nurses of Huron County will celebrate Nursing Week by sponsoring a story -writing contest for public school children. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 4 will — in 50 words or less — write on the topic: "What I Think A Nurse Does". The topic for Grades 5 to 8 is "What Makes A Good Nurse", and the length should be 100 words or less. There will be three prizes awarded for 'east category and the stories must be handed in to theschool nurse the week of April 18,1 r .
