Howick PeeWe
despite a valiant.
The Howick PeeWees gave a
gallant effort last Wednesday night
in HMsburgh, but were defeated 11-8
and eliminated from further play.
Once again the Howick lads hurt
themselves by starting slowly and
falling behind by scores of 5-0 and 10-
2 before rallying in,the third period.
Philip Livermore and Ryan
Gallaher had big nights with
Livermore getting four goals and
three assists and Gallaher going
three, plus two. David Keil scored
the other Howick marker.
Kyle Wheeler had three assists,
while Michael Greig and Dan
MacGregor recorded singles.
The Howick team ends its season
at tournaments in Goderich and
Hanover.
Ironmen Oldtimers team
defeated by Arthur rivals
The first of two exhibition matches
between the Wingham Ironmen
Oldtimers and the Arthur
Screaming Eagles was held last
Saturday evening in Arthur, with the
hosts coming out on top of a 7-5
count.
In the opening period, Arthur
came out flying and had scored four
unanswered goals in the first 12
minutes of play before Wingham
could get untracked.
Finally Bob Johnston scored
Wingham's first and only goal of the
openingf , assisted by Gord
Kinahan. oughout the remainder
of the period, Wingham had a
number of good chances, but the out-
standing goaltending of the Arthur
netminder kept Wingham off the
scoresheet.
After the Wingham coach, George
Skinn, gave the Ironmen his usual
words of wisdom, the Oldtimers hit
the ice and scored the next two
goals. The first goal was scored by
Ian Montgomery, assisted by Barry
MacDonald, while five minutes
later, Russell Jones dented the
. twine, assisted by Randy Alton.
However, the Screaming Eagles
made a comeback, netting two more
goals to take a 6-3 after two frames.
In the third period, the Ironmen
Oldtimers dominated the play, but
once again were frustrated by the
outstanding Arthur goaltending. The
Ironmen managed to score two more
goals, the first by Murray Black and
the second by Alton.
The Wingham goaltender, Paul
Heifer, allowed only one more goal
to make the final score 7-5 in.
WHISTLE STOPS—It was good to
see all the Ironmen players from
1973-76.
Just like the "good old days",
Arthur took 12 penalties to
Wingham's three with one of the
Arthur players even being tossed out
of the game. They may be older and
some haven't played for awhile, but
the rivalry was still there when
these two teams hit the ice.
The second game will be played in
Wingham on March 26 at 7:30 p.m.
with a dance to follow at the Legion
hall, sponsored by the Wingham
Optimist Club.
