passing
Colonel James "Ca rks, Helen Marks of Palmerston, Mrs.
formerly of Lebanon and Listowel, Bill (Carol) Gilmore of RR 2,
died on March 3 at the Clarkwood Palmerston and Diane Palmer of
Estates Nursing Horne, Palmerston. London.
He was 89..
Mr. Marks was born on March 16,
1898 in Wallace Township. He was
the son of the late Jacob and
Margaret (Hollinger) Marks.
He was predeceased by his wife,
Nettie Keeso, in 1985. They were
married on April 29, 1925 in
Lebanon.
Mr. Marks lived in Lebanon for
about 55 years and in Listowel for
several years. He worked at the
chopping mill at Lebanon and he
owned and operated a mic trans-
port business for 46 years.
Mr. Marks was a member of the
Wallace United Church.
He is survived by two sem, Jam
and his wife Janice and Jim and his Spring interment will be ' in
wife Dorothy, all of Wingham; five FairviewCemete%y, Listowel.

and Reed Chapel, Listowel. Rev,
Cecil Wittich officiated.

Clark McLeod, Merit Ellison, Bill
Weber, Ron Weber and Don Mon -
The Huron 4-H Conservation Club
organizational meeting will be held
at the Central Huron Secondary
School, Clinton, on Monday, March
21, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 117.
The club's emphasis this year will
be soil conservation. The club will be
looking at the nature of the soil, its
importance, the effects of water and
wind, the problem of soil compaction
and an examination of our future in
agriculture and society if we do not
manage our soils properly.
The club will have several field
trips in the local area and outside the
county. The fieldtrips will be a
practical application of the
problems and good soil management
practices examined at the meetings.
Meetings will be led by Ray
Hanna, Dave McClure and Ian Sepal
The Achievement Day program
could include a visit to a con-
servation tillage farm operation or
possibly . a field trip to the Con-
servation Farming Day, to be held at

Summary of drainage work
received by Howick Twp.
GORRIE-A report on the work
done under Howick Township's
municipal drain maintenance pro-
gram was recently submitted to
council by Maitland Engineering
Services Ltd. of Wingham, the firm
employed as the township drainage
superintendent.
The following work on municipal
drains was undertaken in 1987:
-On the Craig -Dinsmore Municipal
Drain, the levelling of spoil was
undertaken of Lots 25 and 26, Con.
10. That project was completed.
-On the Shearer Municipal Drain,
ditch bottom cleanout and spoil
levelling work from Sideroad 15-16 to
the CPR, all in Con. 8, was done.
-On the Hislop Municipal Drain,
spall ley ' ap rov innately 350
metres in Lots 13 and 14, south half
df Con. C, was completed..
---On Municipal Drain 18 (down-
strearrm portion) ditch bottom dean -
out and spoil levelling at Lot 30, Con.
12 was completed. Ditch bottom
cleanout on the upstream portion of
the drain, located in Lot 32, Con. 10
was also done.
-On the Leonard Muncipal Drain,
several projects were undertaken.
At Lot 30, Con. 6, two steel outlet
pipes with riprap and additional
riprap placement and bank stabi-
lization was completed. On Lot 31,
Con. 5 and 6, realignment of the
existing concrete drain tile and steel
outlet pipe as well as construction of
a rock chute spillway were projects
undertaken and completed. On Lot
32, Con. 6, ditch bottom cleanout and
spoil levelling was carried out.
-At the Don agar Municipal Drain
at Lot 8, Con. 3, approximately three
metres of 12 -inch tile was replaced.
The work undertaken cost a total
of $5,311.96.
- The cot cif 'employing a `drainage
superintendent in 1987 was
$10,719.22.
