Wingham native Jeff Bloomberg
is expected to sign with the New
York Rangers of the National
Hockey League on March 18.
Bloomberg, 20, was picked up by
the Rangers over one year ago in an
NHL draft. Ile has played with the
North Bay Centennials for several
years,. but currently is sidelined due
to an injury. ,„•41
His mother Louise said her son
was called up by the Rangers to play
three weeks ago, but could not
because of his injury. However, the
family expects the contract to be
signed later this month and
Bloemberg will be playing for the
New York club or its Denver farm
team by the fall.

edition of the newspaper

Bantam athletes of the Wingham
Optimist Track and Field Club
turned in some excellent. _ per-
formances at the, indoor .cham-
pionships held in Toronto last
weekend.

In the long jump, Mike MacKay, ins,.

This was the final indoor meet for.
the Bantams this season. The Mites,

Toronto.

The Wingham Legion PeeWees,
after splitting two games with
Durham, met up with the high -flying
Listowel Cyclones for the next two
games of the round-robin WOAA
playoff series.
Last Tuesday in . Listowel
Wingham went down in the first
game by a count of 64. Goal scorers
for the Legion squad were Bryce
Taylor and Mike MacKay, with
Ryan Deyell assisting on both goals.
On March 3, last Thursday,
Wingham hosted Listowel in the
second game.. Once again Listowel
dominated the play and only the
strong effort of Wingham goaltender
Mat Elmslie, especially in the first
period, kept Wingham viable in the
game.
The score was 6-0 for Listowel.
The visitors collected -nine penalties,
while the Wingham lads were
assessed six penalties.

"C" championship, Aug. 27-28 and
Wroxeter will host the PeeWee "D"
championships, Sept. 3-4. The Squirt
"C" championship at Harriston also
will be held Sept 3.4. -
Teams from across Ontario will
compete in zone playoffs for the
right to advance to these cham-
pionships.
