Tykes struggle
for a 3-3 tie
The Wingham Tykes rebounded
from their weekend loss to Ripley to
salvage a 3-3 tie oast Monday night in
Ayton.
Although playingwith only eight
players, the team Managed one of its
strongest games of the season. Scott
McPherrsonwas''ttie number -one star
of this contest as he set up two of the
Wingham goals and played a fine,
two-way game.
Wingham opened the scoring
midway through the opening frame
when McPherson picked up a loose
puck in his own end and skated the
distance only .-to have his shot
blocked on a fine -stop by the Atyon
goaltender.
However, Wingham's little
sparkplug, Tyler Huffman, was
"Johnny -on -the -spot" to bang in the
rebound.
Wingham took a 2-4) lead early in
the. second when Steve Carter's long
shot from outside the blueline found
the corner of the Ayton net.
However, the lack of bodies began
to show as the locals started to tire
and Ayton responded . with -three
unanswered goals to pull in froht 3-2
with less than five minutes to play.
With just four Minutes t6 go,
McPherson again took charge and
along With John Skint', set up the,
tying goal_by Jamie Good-. The
Mangum boys then held on for the
remaining few minutes to salvage
the tie. 1
