Wingham Town Council favors a
change to a countywide re-
assessment program under Section
70 of the Assessment Act. A Section
70 program would see properties of
equal market value assessed the
same for county and educational
taxes regardless of -where they are
located within the county.
At its February session, town
council approved a finance and
management committee recom-
mendation to support the county:,
wide concept under Section 70.
County council has asked all of the
municipalities in Huron to indicate

Wingham Town Council has ap-
proved a a change which sees its
representative to'the Maitland
Valley Conservation` Authority
switch positions with one of its
recreation and community centres
board representatives.
At its January session, council
approved the appointment of
Councillor Ron Beecroft as its
MVCA representative, replacing
Reeve Bruce Machan who now takes
Mr. Beecroft's place on the
recreation and community centres
board.
Other board members are Jim
Dore, Marg Beard, Gerry Poulin,
Joan Pletch, Roger Plumb, Malcolm
MacKay, Bob Crawford, Gloria
Workman, Lee Cowley, Bob Martin
and Councillor Bill McGrath.

wide system for the education an

In November town council sent
letter T to Education Minister Chr

In his reply to council, read at
February meeting, Mr. Ward airs
he believes a fair and un
derstandable apportionment is bes:
achieved by establishing a common
assessment system throughout a
jurisdiction. In this regard, the
provincial government has mad
significant progress with the in
troduction of region wide or count
wide reassessments, the letter
states.
