the result of a suggestion made at a
meeting of the society last fall.

Fred Meier is elected
board vice-chairar
Fred Meier Sr. of RR 4, Brussels
has been elected first vice-chairman
of the Gay Lea Foods Co-operative
Limited board of directors. He was
elected at the director's meeting
which followed the co-operative's
recent annual meeting.
John Campbell of RR 3, Rayfield
was reelected chairman of, the
board, while George Pinkney of RR
3, Listowel was elected as second
vice-chairman.
Mr. Pinkney was also elected to a
three-year terms as director, while
the other directors elected were:
Jack Stafford of Rha 1, Wroxeter;
Ibin McGee of RR 2_, Flesherton
Don Ahrens of RR 1, Etnnwood;
Edwin Miller of RR 3, Exeter;
Robert Turner of RR 5, Owen Sound;
and Howard Wilson of RR 3, Owen

Mclinden told the 350 shareholders
at:,the annual meeting that the: co-
operative's earnings for 1987 were
similar to those of 1986. He stressed
that the recent action of; the Ontario
M lk Marketing board to divert milk
away from butter ,and powder
processors tospecialty cheese
manufacturers would have a very
negative effect an Gay Lea.
Mr. McLiaden said the co-
operative's efforts to modernize and
improve efficiency at its Baden
cheese manufacturing plant should •
show a diS hard increase i e
in the coming year; adding that
generally, capital investment by the
company had been very high
throughout 1987.
