BRING HOME MEDALS — Three members of the newly -formed
Maitland Athletic Track and Field Club brought home medals from a

Newly -formed club
shines at indoor meet
Wingham's newly -formed track
and field club, Maitland Athletics,
had its debut at the 19 Ontario
Indoor Combined Events , Cham-
pionships held last weekend at the
Toronto Metro Centre.
In the Juvenile girls' pentathlon,
Wingham's Anna Sakasov won the
silver medal, collecting 2,705 points,
a personal record.
Her results are as follows: 60 -
metre hurdles, 10.2 seconds; high
jump, 1.42m; shot put, 10.99m; long
jump, 4.51m and 800m, 2A8 minutes.
Lynda Harkness, in her first-ever

triathlon in Bantam irls'

petifion, showed very good form by
winning the bronze medal with 894
points. Her results are: 60m hurdles,
15.4 sec. (her time was slowed in the
middle of the race when a girl in the
next lane tripped and fell)high
jump, 1.30m and shot put, 8.64m,
Paul Sakasov competed in the all -
comers' shot put event in the Midget
boys' category. He was first with a
personal best of 11.86m.
The next competition will the Pro-
vincial Legion Indoor Championship
next month.
Kentucky Nuggets
lose 6-0 to Belmore
The Wingham Kentucky Nuggets
travelled to Belmore last
Wednesday, but came home with a 6-
. 0 loss.
The Wingham lads played well in
the first period, but the skates fell off
in the second and third frames.
Last Saturday, the Nuggets were
off to Harriston and came home on
the short end of a 34 score. There
was good action in the first period,
but no scoring.
Harriston went up 1-0 in the
second.
An unassisted effort by
Wingham's Trevor Huffman put the
team on the scoresheet qHowever,
Harriston went on to score two more
goals.
Clifford came to town on Sunday
for what was to be an evenly -
matched contest. •
David Laing opened the scoring
• for Wingham in the first and Paul
'Meehan put .the host team ahead 2-0

However, with just over one
minute remaining in the first,
Clifford made it 21, managed to tie
the game in the second and then
went ahead 3-2.
Huffman tied the game for
Wingham in the third, but 23 seconds
later, Clifford went up 4-3. Laing tied
the game once more for Wingham
and Huffman put Wingham ahead 5-
4.
The seesaw battle cont nued when
Clifford tied the match once more.
However, Machan, assisted by
Jamie Good, scored for Winghaiii to
put the game at 6-5 for the Nuggets.
However, the local lads were
denkid the win as Clifford scored
with only 4Q seconds left in the game.
This game was good practice for the
playoffs, which as just around the
corner. The team's next game is this
Saturday at 10 a.m. in Harriston.

Goodtimers --
take series 301
The Wingham GoodTimers
travelled to Teeswater to play the
last game of a three -game series and
came out on the short. ond of a 7-5
score. Wingham, however, had won
the earlier games and took the series
two games to one.
Both teams played well in the final
game as each end saw its share of
action throughout the contest.
Jack McPherson .led the Wingham
attack with a hat trick while singles
went to Al Dickson and Tom ywin.
The Goodtimers also traielled to
Ayton on Sunday and managed a 5-1
win with only two lines.
Dave Bourne had an excellent
night with a pair of goals and singles
went to Carl Mowbray, Peter Long
and a recruit for the night, Scott
Pettigrew.
• Season record for the GoodTimers
now stands at 11 wins and three
losses.
Bridges are back
on winning track
The Bridge Mustangs finally were
able to get back on the winning track
last Monday night, posting a 6-3
victory over the Stainton Spitfires.
Bill Brophy led the Mustang
scoring with three goals.
For the Spitfires, the loss was
their fourth in the last five games.
Last Tuesday night the Crawford
Dodgers put their six -game winning
streak on the line against the third-
place Advance -Times Newsboys.
The Newsboys came close to
ending CraWfords' streak, but had to
settle for a 5-5 tie after Andy Reid
was foiled by Crawfords netminder
Neil Parsons on a penalty shot late
in the third period.
