SACRED HEART CONCERT—The Kindergarten pupils from Sacred Heart School in Wingham performed several numbers at the Christmas concert at the school. Companies competing to GORRIE — A Canadian Radio and Telecom- 9nunications Commission (CRTC) hearing will be held in Howick Township sometime in February' to decide who will be allowed to bring cable television to the villages of the township. Bill Self of Toronto. and Keith Ellis of Walkerton, owners of Maitland Cable TV, attended the May meeting of Howick Township Council to request a letter of support for their application to the CRTC. But while the CRTC was reviewing their application, a second application for the cable rights to Howick Township, was ' also re- ceived The second application is from Kincardine Cable. Councillors were. told at the. Dec. 3 meeting of council a hearing would be held in February at which the CRTC would encourage sub- missions and questions from the public. A decision would likely take two months. Howick, one of the few ' Ontario communities that hasn't been supplied cable by one of the larger cable companies, will likely get a service which : will be available to residents of Gorrie, Ford- Wich and Wroxeter., • In other business at the Dec. 3 meeting of Howick Township Council, coun- cillbrs appointed the five members of the township's new property standards committee. The committee, which consists of Gord Kasten Harry Winkel, Harold Robinson, Lyle Murray and Morley Johnson, will deal with , complaints from Howick residents about the disrepair of some township Under the direction of teacher Ida Martin, the children sang "Thank You, God", "I Saw Three Ships", "Jingle Bells" and "Roll Over". bring cable to twp. residences. Don and Catherine Juno, of RR 2, Clifford, attended the Dec. 3 meeting of council and left shortly after the com- mittee was named. The Junos have had a long- standing complaint about a barn owned by Jack Douglas which stands about 20 feet from Mr. Juno's lot line. They wrote a letter to council about the disrepair of the barn, ca ing it an "eye- sore" and a'"fire hazard" They said the barn could damage their property and implement shed if it comes down in a storm. After the property stan- dards committee was ap- pointed, Deputy Reeve John Jacques assured the Junos the township's building in- spector would be sent to assess the condition of Mr. Douglas' barn and if he recommended to the com- mittee it was in violation of the property standards bylaw, the committee would take action. Also at the' Dec. 3 meeting of council, most councillors expressed an interest in attending a "New .Coun- cillors' Seminar" in Palmerston in February. Township clerk -treasurer Marvin Bosetti will make arrangements for them to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Harcourt of 324 Edward Street, Wingham, returned home last Friday from a.two- week vacation in West Palm � Beach, Florida. While there they visited with friends and attended a convention at the Grace Gospel Church, off. Southern Boulevard in West Palm Beach. Ratepayers will be responsible for any accident or damages to snowplow caused by snow thrown on to highway, and will be respon- sible if it has to be removed. Under Section 147, SS10 "The Highway Traf- fic Act"; "No persons shall park or stand a vehicle on a highway in such a manner as to interfere with movement of traffic or interfere with clearing of. Highway". Any vehicle left in such a manner as to interfere with clearing of snow from highway SHALL be towed away at owner's expense. Ralph W.
