GORRIE — A Canadian
Radio and Telecom-
9nunications Commission
(CRTC) hearing will be held
in Howick Township
sometime in February' to
decide who will be allowed to
bring cable television to the
villages of the township.
Bill Self of Toronto. and
Keith Ellis of Walkerton,
owners of Maitland Cable
TV, attended the May
meeting of Howick Township
Council to request a letter of
support for their application
to the CRTC.
But while the CRTC was
reviewing their application,
a second application for the
cable rights to Howick
Township, was ' also re-
ceived
The second application is
from Kincardine Cable.
Councillors were. told at the.
Dec. 3 meeting of council a
hearing would be held in
February at which the CRTC
would encourage sub-
missions and questions from
the public.
A decision would likely
take two months. Howick,
one of the few ' Ontario
communities that hasn't
been supplied cable by one of
the larger cable companies,
will likely get a service
which : will be available to
residents of Gorrie, Ford-
Wich and Wroxeter.,

Dec. 3 meeting of Howick
Township Council, coun-
cillbrs appointed the five
members of the township's

committee.

consists of Gord Kasten
Harry Winkel, Harold
Robinson, Lyle Murray and
Morley Johnson, will deal

residences.
Don and Catherine Juno, of
RR 2, Clifford, attended the
Dec. 3 meeting of council and
left shortly after the com-
mittee was named.
The Junos have had a long-
standing complaint about a
barn owned by Jack Douglas
which stands about 20 feet
from Mr. Juno's lot line.
They wrote a letter to
council about the disrepair of
the barn, ca ing it an "eye-
sore" and a'"fire hazard"
They said the barn could
damage their property and
implement shed if it comes
down in a storm.
After the property stan-
dards committee was ap-
pointed, Deputy Reeve John
Jacques assured the Junos
the township's building in-
spector would be sent to
assess the condition of Mr.
Douglas' barn and if he
recommended to the com-
mittee it was in violation of
the property standards
bylaw, the committee would
take action.
Also at the' Dec. 3 meeting
of council, most councillors
expressed an interest in
attending a "New .Coun-
cillors' Seminar" in
Palmerston in February.
Township clerk -treasurer
Marvin Bosetti will make
arrangements for them to
attend.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer
Harcourt of 324 Edward
Street, Wingham, returned
home last Friday from a.two-
week vacation in West Palm
Beach, Florida. While there
they visited with friends and
attended a convention at the
Grace Gospel Church, off.
Southern Boulevard in West
Palm Beach.
