On Sunday, February 10, 1986 at a Toronto recording studio, an extraordinary event took place. Top Canadian • stars came to- gether as Northern Lights to record a single and video titled "Tears Are Not Enough" in aid of Ethiopian famine victims. . CBC Television was there to capture superstars Anne Murray, Bryan Adams, Gordon Lightfoot, Frank Mills, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Corey Hart, John: Candy, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Rush, Geddy Lee, Murray McLauchlan, Paul Shaffer, Carole Pope, Ronnie Hawk- ins, The Payolas' Paul Hyde, Marc Jordan; Oscar Peter- son, The Spoons' Gordon Deppe, Liona Boyd, Tommy Hunter, Sylvia Tyson, Para- chute Club's Lorraine Se- gato, Jane Siberry, Carroll Baker, Salome Bey, Sharpn Lee Williams and the many other talented entertainers who formed the one -day supergroup Northern Lights. In the process they made hi -story. Never before had so many Canadian stars gathered together in one place for a single purpose. The entire entertainment spectrum was represted from rock to pop, jazz, "c aassicar; "country, - aTong with television and film stars. The 90 -minute • docu- mentary included some wonderful moments: Anne 'Murray talking . about why she wanted t� help out; Neil Young commenting on his voice; John Candy kibutzing with Paul Shaffer.
