Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Craig, Lana, Ryan and Jarxet last Saturday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Bevin Tiffin, Stephen and Dean; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Belmore and Sean; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gibson and Mrs. Alan Falconer, Tony, Tim and Amy. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Falconer and family held a birthday party Sunday at noon for Mrs. Steve Irwin. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Milligan, Steve Irwin, Cody and Chance and the Falconer family. Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Archie Purdon in the sudden passing last Saturday evening of her mother, Mrs. Webster Jacklin, at the Wingham and District Hospital. Sympathy is extended to the Purdon children in the passing of their grandmother. Sympathy is extended to Charlie Taylor of Lucknow in the passing of his sister, Mrs. Archie Patterson, formerly Irene Tay1 . The funeral service wa he in Lucknow and the late r . Patterson will be buried next spring in the family plot at Langside Cemetery. Ken Sinnamon of Wing - ham was a Sunday visitor with Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Beecroft. Last Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Carl McClenaghan attended a birthday party for Darryl Sacks at Ayton at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Sacks. The Sunday School concert is this Sunday evening at 8:30. Morris council goes to twice monthly meeting Morris Township Council has revised its meeting dates and now will hold two monthly meetings instead of one. For the months of Decem- ber, January, February and March, council will meet at 1 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. The meeting. time for the remainder of the year will be 7 p.m. - A second monthly meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. every third Tuesday for which the reeve will be paid $30 and the remainder of council $25. However the special meeting rate will come up for discussion, along with council's honor- aria, at the Jan. 7 meeting. In other business at Monday evening's meeting, Allen Searle, Morris Town- ship's retiring member of the Seaforth Hospital Board, gave a report. He said the Seaforth Hospital has preliminary plans made for its new emergency wing and is awaiting approval from the Ontario Ministry of Health. Mr. Searle said 35 people from Morris Township were admitted to the Seaforth Hospital for treatment in. 1984. Shirley Garniss, the town- ship's representative on the Wingham and District. Hos- pital's Board of Governors, was unable to attend the meeting due to weather conditions. She will attend the Jan. 21 meeting. Also •at the Jan. 21 meeting, a representative from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment will be on hand to discuss the township waste disposal site. Christmas meeting held at .Mathers home BLU.EVALE - The Christmas meeting of the United Church Women was held at 'the home of Mrs. Jean Mathers with a good attendance. Mrs. Ross Nicholson opened the meeting with Unit 4 leading in worship, conducted by Mrs.. Eve Payne and assisted by Mrs. Mathers. The poem "Foot- prints in the Sand" and the Christmas story were the themes. • Roll call was a white gift and naming a favorite Christmas fragrance or decoration. All three units gave encouraging reports and a letter was read from the UCW-sponsored child. Delegates 'to the annual presbyterial .meeting at Exeter Jan. 27 are Mrs. Keith Nicholson, Mrs. Lloyd Wheeler; Mrs. Bruce Corrigan, Mrs. Ross Nicholson and one member from each unit. Toc Alpha information concerning a Christmas conference was discussed. More Bibles (Good News) are to be. purchased for use as gifts to newlyweds. A fund to be used for local needs was set up after receiving an appeal. Future needs of the kitchen and cleaning staff were assessed. A vote of thanks was given to the hostess and 1985 of- ficers, and Mrs. Peacock installed the officers for 1986 as follows: past president, Mrs. Ross Nicholson; president; Mrs. Keith Nicholson; first vice, Mrs. Lloyd Wheeler; second vice, Mrs. Bruce Corrigan; secretary, Mrs. Charles Mathers; treasurer, Mrs. Harold Johnston; pianists, Mrs. Carl Johnston and Mrs. Harold Johnston; auditors, Mrs. Doug Garniss and Mrs. Larry Elston. Mrs. Oberholtzer and Mrs. Gutowski of Waterloo came to. visit their mother, Mrs. Norma Rintoul, on Monday and 'left for home on Tuesday. Last Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Campbell and Heather of Richmond Hill visited Mrs. Rintoul. Mr., and Mrs. Neil Rintoul, Steve, Scott and Stuart and Mrs. Norma Rintoul visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Robinson and family at Brussels. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McMil- lan of Sarnia and Mrs. Isobel Tiffin of Lucknow visited Sunday with Mrs. Jean Tiffin and Wes Tiffin in the Wing- ham and District Hospital. Whitechurch WI enjoys • festive dinner Whitechurch -Last Wednesday at noon, 26 Women's Institute members from Whitechurch sat down to a delicious turkey banquet at the Wingham United Church. The Opening Ode and the Lord's Prayer opened the meeting. The president, Mrs. John Currie, welcomed all and read a Christmas poem, "The Legend of the Robin". A duet, "Star of the East" was sung by Mrs. Bill Gibson and Mrs. Wardrop. A motion was passed to continue the "Secret Sisters" for 1986. Instrumentals were played by Mrs. Russell McGuire, Mary Hehn and Agnes Farrier. A draw was made and the following were winners: quilt, Mrs. Mary Nelson, Lucknow; ham, Angus MacDougall, Teeswater and apples, Ed Wightman. A vote of thanks was given Mrs. Gibb and Brenda Day for looking after thie ticket sales. Some carol singing followed and a solo by Jean McGuire, "Come into My Heart, Lord Jesus", Mrs. Jean Tiffin played "Silver Bells" and "Let It Snow" on the piano. Mrs. Elgin Johnston gave a reading, ' "A Christmas Debt" and an exchange of candy and recipes was held. Mrs. Don Ross gave the Christmas story and . some Christmas tree traditions. The Secret Sister gift ex- change was held. The. meeting closed with the singing of "I Wish You a Merry .Christmas and a Happy New Year". Carol service Will appear on Channel 12 The Service of Carols and Lessons in St. Paul's Anglican Church, Wingham, on Sunday; Dec. - 22, at I1" a.m., will be broadcast on Cable Channel 12. The cable -cast is scheduled for 3 p.m. the same day. • Present plans call for the taping of several local feature presentations in coming months. These programs will be under the direction ' of Rev. Douglas Madge and will cover a variety of community ac- tivities. Mr. and Mrs, George Whitby and Mr. and Mrs. Ron Herd visited at the Merrick home on Sunday. use the WANTADS. Mr. Heywood found two young helpers in the audience, Travis Chambers and Karen Schill, to assist him in his act. Mr. Heywood's wife Martha,• not shown, also assisted her husband in his magic act. MRS. LEWIS STONEHOUSE -� Belgrave Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna entertained 37 mem- bers of their family and friends at the WI Hall on Sunday. Those attending were from: Kitchener, Goderich, Londesboro, Bel - grave and area. The Anglican Church pot- luck supper and Christmas tree was held on Friday eve- ning, Dec. 13, in the WI Hall, Belgrave. There was a good attendance and Santa ar- rived on schedule to help distribute the gifts from the well -laden tree. The Edgar relatives held their Christmas get-together rand dinner at the WI Hall on Saturday with 49 present. Following the dinner at 7:00, Santa Claus arrived, to the delight of the children and everyone present, and with others helping, distributed the gifts from the tree. Brig - den, Petrolia, Aylmer, Luck - den, Petrolia, Aylmer, Luck - now, Blyth, Wingham and Belgrave. ' Eight tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the WI Hall last Wednesday. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. William Black; novelty lady, Mrs. Helen Martin; low lady, Mrs. Lawrence Taylor; high man, George Dreh- mann;' 'novelty man, Clarence Hanna; low man, Mel Jacklin. This is the last euchre until after the Christmas holi- days. The next euchre will be held Jan. 8, starting at the same time of 8:00 p.yn. Everyone is welcome. Wingham choir presents cantata Inclement weather failed to deter a large number of people from attending the Christmas cantata presented by the hoir of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church., Wingham, on Sunday evening. Under the direction of Mrs. Paul Mills, the choir gave a fine presentation of "Born a King" by Peterson. Mrs. Hugh Clugston ac- companied at the piano. The Christmas story of the birth of Jesus was effectively -breltglit out in song. Itev. Paul Mills was narrator and soloists were Mrs. Mary Lee, Gordon Leggatt, Mrs. Bruce MacDonald and Miss Karen Young. The evening was climaxed by a time of fellowship when„ the congregation joined the choir for refreshments provided by the Ladies' Auxiliary. The Sunday School of St. Andrew's held its Christmas concert"the previous Sunday evening. New officers are elected at St. Paul's The Evening Guild of St. Paul's Anglican Church met Tuesday evening of last veek, with 16 members answering the roll call. The meeting opened with devotions and. prayer, Jean and Gale McKay in charge. Rev. Douglas Madge conducted the election of officers for the coming year. Florence Delmage is president; Elda Nethery vice president; Edith Lockridge secretary and Ruth king treasurer. Co - social conveners are Elda Nethery and Ruth King and Lois Cunningham is the card convener. Mr. Madge spoke to the group on "What the birth. of Christ means to us in 1985". Lunch was served by Mrs. Cunningham.
