Howick Peewees win
tournament at Fergus
The Howick WOAA
PeeWees traveled to Fergus
last weekend for a two-day
tournament and came home
with the championship.
Howick's first game was
against a strong Elora team.
Howick scored early in the
first frame as Steve Gibson
took a pass from Jason
Douglas to beat the Elora
goalie. Donald Livermore
gave Howick a 2-0 lead after
the first period on an
unassisted goal as he rushed
from end to end.
Howick led 3-0 after two
periods as Jirret Henhoeffer
scored on a neat passing play
from Donald Livermore and
Gibson.
Elora scored two quick
goals with under five
minutes remaining in the
game, which led to an ex-
citing finish. Jayson Potts
finally relieved the pressure
by scoring an empty -net goal
with seven seconds
remaining to give Howick a
4-2 victory.
The second game last
Saturday was as exciting as
the first. Howick played
Wheatley, the team which
just had defeated Waterloo.
Wheatley scored after only
13 seconds of play and this
lead held up for one period.
John Greig tied the game
for Howick at 1-1 halfway
through the second period.
Gibson assisted on the
marker. Andrew Weber
scored a lucky goal from
behind the net to give
Howick a 2-1 lead before the
second frame ended.
This goal seemed to give
the Howick boys a lift. Early
in the final period Gibson
scored on a powerplay as he
tipped in a shot from the
point by Greig. Donald
Livermore also assisted on
the play.
Wheatley narrowed the
count with only one minute
and six seconds remaining in
the game. Wheatley pulled
its goalie, but was unable to
get the equalizer.
Peter Stewart and Mark
Fraser played excellent
games in the Howick net.
The early eight o'clock
start on Sunday morning
proved quite refreshing for
the Howick team as the lads
dominated play over the
Waterloo squad and
emerged easy 10-0 winners.
Gibson led the Howick
attack with five goals.
Henhoeffer and Greig scored
two goals each with Donald
Livermore scoring a single
marker. Philip and Donald
Livermore had four and
three assists respectively.
Two assists went to Potts
and Douglas and single
assists went to Steve
MacGregor and Jason
Jacobson.
The win sent Howick into
'the championship game and
Fraser recorded the shutout
for Howick. • •
King City advanced to the
finals with a 6-5 overtime
victory over Alliston. King
City featured a high -scoring
player. by the name of Don
O'Neill, who had scored 23
goals in the previous four
games.

each of the second and third
;.periods and mated to a 4-1

his second goal of the game
for Milverton to complete the
scoring.

moving the puck out of their
own end, as well as providing
good protection for goalie
Chad Davis, who also played.
a solid game.

Hi, this is Stevie reporting
for Grade 6 at the Wingham
Public School. Just 'recently
our class had a citrus
campaign and it had ex-
cellent results.
The first Friday of each
month is a special day in our
class. Our last special day
was called "Teddy Bear
Day" and the next one, last
Friday, was "Sex -Change
Day". The girls • dressed up
as boys and the boys dressed
upas girls.
The last month or so we
have been spending time on
a social studies project. The
students picked out three
different Mexican Indian
tribes, the Mayans, the
Aztecs._.9c _the_ Toltec then
they wrote reports or essays
about their tribe.
Well, that wraps up my
report for this week. "Have a
nice day." .

All the children in Mrs.
Robertson's Kindergarten
class are counting the days
until Christmas. They have
been doing many Christmas
activities, such as writing to
Santa with the help of
reading buddies and they
also have been decorating
the Christmas tree.
The afternoon Kin-
dergarten class is looking
forward to performing at the
Christmas assembly on
Thursday.

has been bringing in tree

For this favorite holiday,
the class might make a

This year Mrs, Szarek's

This week the Grade 5s
have been very busy working
on Christmas cards for
Mom, Dad. Grandpa,
Grandma or just about
anyone. They also are
having a review test. The
last two units of their books
dealt mostly with adjectives
such as: grand, fort, triste.

the challenge. The only goal
of the first period was scored
by Douglas, assisted by
Philip Livermore to end the
first frame at 1-0 for Howick.
Gibson scored four con-
secutive goals in the next two
periods to give Howick a 5-0
L
lead midway through the
third period. Henhoeffer and
Potts each had two assists on
the goals, while Jason
Douglas collected a single
assist.
O'Neill was not to be
denied as he scored his 24th
and 25th goals before the end
of the contest. However in
the end Howick held on to
win the championship by a 5-
2 score.

eg ion PeeWees win
Last weekend the
Wingham Legion PeeWees
participated in a tournament
in Fergus, returning home
with a one win, one loss and a
draw.
The PeeWees lost their
first game of the tournament
3-2 to a strong Alliston squad,
which made it to the
championship round in their
division. This was a very
close, tight -checking game
with the Legion team having
several excellent scoring
opportunities, but unable to
capitalize on thesechances.
Both Wingham goals were
scored by Jeff McKee, who
had a strong game. Tim
Currie assisted on each
marker.
Andrew Mann had a good
game for Wingham in net.
Wingham's second game
turned into a one-sided affair
with the local boys
dominating the match with
Lambeth throughout. The
Legion squad opened the
scoring with 'less than two
minutes gone in the first
frame on a fine solo effort by
Currie. From this point on,
the ' game belonged to
Wingham.
Jeff McKee led the
Wingham attackers with
three goals. Rob MacKay
had a goal and two assists,
while other Wingham goal
scorers were Mike Elmslie
and Dave McKee. Assists
went to Jason Bloemberg
with three and Don Hein -
miller with one.
Bill McGrath delivered a
strong performance in the
Wingham net. The Legion
team emerged with the 7-1
victory.
In Wingham's final game
of the tournament, the boys
met . a determined Forest
club that had not won a
game. The boys from Forest
outplayed the Wingham
team throughout.
The local lads certainly
are a much better team than
they showed in this game
and were fortunate to gain a
tie with the goalie pulled and
50 seconds remaining in the
game.
Forest went ahead 2-1 in
the first frame with no
further scoring until
Wingham's tying goal in the
third for the 2-2 final.
Wingham goals were
scored by the McKee
brothers, Jeff and David.
Elmslie had two assists and
single assists went to Rob
Harrison and Steve Michie.
