the Wingham Friends of the Library.

a senior citizens' group in Alberta, belongs to Gail

men's Institute Hall last Fri-
day.
Following a hearty meal, a
Christmas program was
presented by the Sunday
School,
--Tracey R.obirnsoit gave
welcome recitation, followed
by a number by the Kinder-
garten class entitled "The
Magic of Christmas". Par-
ticipants were Tracey Rob-
inson, Donna Jean Pattison,
David and Michael McBurn-
ey and Robbie McGee.
Debbie and Dianne Ross
delighted the audience. with
Highland dancing.
A skit entitled."Visiting
the Sick" was prsented by
Brenda Halman, Maryon
Dow, Jeff Olson and Brad
Shiell. "(Christmas) Then
and Now" was presented by
the combined efforts of the
Primary and Junior Classes,
depicting how the Christmas
story' would be told. in
present times and past
times. Participants were
Sherry and Trisha Taylor,
Brent, Brad and Mark
Robinson, Debbie and
Dianne Rte -Brandon-and
Aaron Coultes, Dawn Dow,
Simone Bleeker, Tabitha
Pattison, Ben Heiman and
Mark Olson.
Carol singing, led by Rev.
John G. Rob-erts and ac-
companied by Mrs. George
McGee, was interspersed
throughout the program.
Donald Dow, Sunday
School superintendent,
thanked the teachers and
participants for their efforts
and every child was present-
ed with a Christmas treat.

Mrs. Glenn Johnston was
hostess Sunday for the
Commercial Horse Associa-
tion fall meeting. About 30
attended from Peter-
borough, Brampton, Paisley,
Port Elgin, Monkton and
Shelburne. •
Mrs. Eva Harris returned
home last week after
spending a week with Mr.
and Mrs. John Harris and
family •in London.
Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Gibson
of Listowel visited one day
last week with Mrs. Alma
Hargrave and David.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry
Clarkson have moved into
the home they recently
purchased from Mr. and
Mrs. Don Coghlin,
Mrs. Marian Kirby spent a
few days with her family in
Toronto..
Baptismal service was
held Sunday in the Fordwich
United Church when Rev. Cy
Marzec baptized •Jennifer
Lee, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Bradley Hutchison;
Sheena Kerry, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Gib -
.son; and Stephanie Alyssa,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

FORDWICH — The senior
citizens' group sat down to
Christmas dinner recently in
the village hall. The dinner
was catered by the Unijed
Church Women and 41 people
enjoyed the dinner at the
hall, while three dinners
were sent out.
At the close of the meal,
Kress McKee extended the
group's thanks to the ladies
for a job well done.
Mrs. William Wilson
opened the business portion
/of the meeting with the
singing of ''O Canada" and
"Happy Birthday" to one
member. The roll call and
treasurer's report were
given. Several letters and
thank -you messages were
read and a motion was made
to pay all bills.
Since the first Wednesday
of January falls upon New
Year's Day, the first
meeting off the new year will
be held Jan. 8, starting with
a pot -luck luncheon at 12
noon.
The group's first card -
party of the year will be held
Jan. 10 at 8:30 p.m.
During the evening, a
petition was circulated
concerning the need for
more beds at the Fordwich
nursing home.
The nominating com-
mittee gave a report and the
following were elected
executive members for 1986:
past president, Mrs. Wilson;
president, Clarence Car-
swell; first vice, Helen
Nickel; second vice, Mrs.
Wray Cooper; treasurer,
Roy Kennedy; secretary,
Mrs. Eva Harris; card and
memorial secretary, Mrs.
Edna Doig; auditors, Mrs.
Clarence Carswell and
Russell Nickel and
nominating committee,
Lorne Kelly, Mrs. Doig and
Eva Harris.
A vote of thanks for a job
well done was extended to
Mrs. Wilson and Mrs.
George Bartman.
The program opened with
readings and a poem by Mrs.
Cooper. The highlight of the
program -was a tableau
arranged and narrated by
Mrs. Cooper entitled "Holy
Night". This included a
beautiful manger scene with
the characters of Mary,
Joseph, a rabbi, a boy,
angels, archangels and
shepherds. A choir was
composed of members of the,
three groups. The tableau
was well done and well
received.
The singing of "Joy to the
World" brought the evening
to a close.

The Lord's Prayer,
repeated in unison, closed
the installation of the of-
ficers.
Mrs. Golley opened the
meeting with a Christmas
poem, followed by the
singing 'of a carol. After
reading from St. Matthew's
Gospel, chapter two, Mrs.
Colley told the members to
"Look at Christmas" and
after looking in crowded
'sto'res with their tempting
goods, ask themselves,
"Where is Christ in all that
show?". In closing, she said,
"We should worship and sing
in our homes as • well as
church and have a happy
family day." Mrs. Glenn
McKercher closed devotions
with prayer.
Minutes of the last meeting
were read' and 16 members
answered the roll call with a
verse pertaining to peace.
Mrs. William Elston made a
motion to 'give Mrs. Mann
money to buy cards and it
was seconded by Mrs. Burns
Moffatt. Letters were read,,
requesting donations for
Town and Country Home-
makers. and Ewart College,
but• were declined.
UCW meeting is held
in-the-charrlor
BRUSSELS — The af-
ternoon unit of the Brussels
United Church Women met
in the church parlor last
Tuesday with the president,
Mrs. Dorothy Steffler, in
charge, opening the meeting
with a Christmas greeting.
, During the meeting,
selected carols were sung
with Mrs. Mary Bryans at
the piano. The Christmas
Story was read by Mrs. Ruth
Huepfer. Mrs. Betty Graber
sang two solos, "I Wonder as
I Wander" and "I Heard the
Bells on Christmas Day".
A flu stinas—puma was
given by Mrs. Edna Pearson
and a reading, "A Pattern
fbr Living", was followed by
a prayer by Mrs. Steffler.
During the business
report, the treasurer
reported that money was
given to the church board
and sponsorships for six
young people to go to Toc-
Alpha in Toronto during the
Christmas holiday.
The Christmas pot -luck
lunch followed the Sunday
service. The boxes for shut-
ins were packed last Thurs-
-day.
• A total of 13 members and
two visitors answered the
roll call with a Christmas
thought and the collection
was taken.
Mrs. Anne Smith read a
Christmas story. The
nominating committee gave
its report and the meeting
closed with a parting verse
by the president. Mrs. Smith
and Mrs. Ida Evans served a
lunch of assorted goodies
provided by the members.

Mrs. Jack Jenkins chose
"Christmas, A Time of Joy"
as her topic. She told how
God sent a message to the
shepherds and said it was
magnificent to hear of the
Savior coming, with a
message for each individual.
She also spoke of the
eagerness in today's world to
receive peace on earth with
joyful tidings.
Reports were heard from
each secretary, indicating a
successful year. Mrs. Golley
thanked the hostess, Mrs.
McKercher, for sharing her
beautifully -decorated • home.
"Silent Night" was the
closing hymn and was
followed by prayer. Prior to
the installation of officers,
Mrs. Gordon Mundell read
scripture from Paul's Letter.
to the Corinthians, saying
that Christ is like a single
Man, yet made of many
different parts. She followed
with prayer.
Mrs. Mundell, Mrs. Golley
and Mrs. McKercher served
a Christmas lunch and a
social time was enjoyed.

was collected for the Diabet-
ic Association in the village
of Belgrave. Mrs. John
McCracken and Mrs.
Dorothy Logan thank all
those who helped in the can-
vassing. Other helpers were
Mrs. Les Shaw, Harold Keat-
ing, Wilfred Walker, Mrs.
Lawrence Taylor, Mrs. Evel
Reich, Tom Wharton and
Mrs. George Johnston. '
Clare Van Camp is a
patient in the Wingham and
District Hospital.
Mrs. Laura Johnston spent
the weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. George Johnston, Tara
and Erin of Ilderton.
Robert Coultes is a patient
in the Wingham and District
Hospital.
The sum of $841.05, which
is an increase of $137.70 over
last year, was collected for
the Belgrave Branch of the
Bible Society. The officers of
this branch thank all who
helped collect and those who
donated during this canvass.

Christmas get-together in
the WI Hall on Saturday,
Dec. 7.
