Co-ordinate Measuring Machine -

Prerequisite: Ability to read Mechanical
Blueprints.
This course will give the student the
ability to use a MITUTOYO co-ordinate
measuring machine. These machines
are used for quality control for parts
with very close tolerances and 100'e
dimensionally inspected. Students will
learn set-up, operation and program-
ming on a co-ordinate measuring ma-
chine. Classes are a combination of
theory and laboratory work.

Gas Fitter B Licence
Preparation - 4210130 N
A Prerequisite: Gas Fitter 11 Permanent
Certificate and written proof of: one year
of natural gas fitting experience since
certification as a Gas Fitter II OR at least
250 hours o.f supervised experience on
natural gas appliances having inputs in
excess of 400,000 British thermal units
per hour since certification as a Gas
Fitter II.
This course is designed to assist stu-
dents to prepare for the Gas Fitter I Pro-
vincial Examination. In addition to gain-
ing a thorough understanding of the On-
tario Gas Utilization Code, students will
learn about flame safeguard systems,
non -programming flame safeguard con-
trols, gas firecf, boilers, and installation
of boilers in mechanical rooms.

General Drafting (Specialized
Options) - 403280 A
This course is comprised of twelve mo-
dules, which will take approximately
eight semesters to complete. Each stu-
dent will have the opportunity to prog-
ress at his/her own pace. A student may
. choose to work on specific modules rel-
evant to his/her needs or to complete all
of them.
The aim of the course is to prepare the
student for employment in the drafting
field, although some people may wish to
take the course for personal pleasure.
The basic modules include: orthographic
projection, pictorial drawing, geometric
exercises, sections, auxiliary views, de-
tailed working drawings, assembly work-
ing drawings, welding drawings, cams,
gears and gearing, and sheet metal de-
velopments. The twelfth module involves
one of the following three specialized
options: die design, jig and fixture de-
sign, or architectural drafting. After com-
pletion of the entire course, the. student
will be able to adapt readily to varying
company needs and practices.
At the end of each semester, the student
will receive an Affirmation, on which the
modules completed wilt be listed.

Natural Gas Fitter Licence

This course, involving an in-depth study
of the Ontario Gas Utilization Code, is
designed to assist students to prepare
for the Gas Fitter II Provincial examina-
tion. The principles of natural gas han-
dling and usage for residential and light
commercial application (up to 400,000
British thermal units per hour) will be
covered. The aim of the course is to pro-
vide students with the knowledge re-
quired to work with natural gas legally
and safely,

io Building Codes acknowledge the
H.R.A.I. Digest and its Manuals including
Heat Loss and Heat Gain Calculations,
as accepted design practice.

Hydraulics And Pneumatics 1 -

Although the principle.of fluid power can
be traced back to Pascal and the piston,
it is only in the past twenty years or so
that the fluid power industry has
emerged.
Fluid power is defined as the art of gen-
erating, controlling and applying
smooth, effective power of such pumped
or compressed fluids as air and oil in or-
der to push, pull, rotate, regulate or drive
the machines, equipment and appliances
of modern life.
In this course, students will gain familiar-
ity with the principles of fluid power and
learn about the ways in which hydrau-
lics, air and vacuum are used in this
field. -

M.I.G. Welding (G.M.A.W.) - 4270340 A
This course will cover both theory and
shop practice of semi-automatic, gas
metal arc process.
Classroom topics will include areas such
as: power sources, wire feeders, shield-
ing gases, process variables and equip-
ment maintenance. Shop exercises will
be on thick and thin steel plate, in all -
positions and pipe using single and mul-
finesses with both solid and fluxcored
wire. Students must supply their safety
glasses and welding gloves.

Shielded Metal Arc Welding
(Stick) - 4270350 A
Students will concentrate on shielded
metal arc welding in this practical hands-
on course. Practice leads toward the Ca-
nadian Welding Bureau flat plate test, al-
though not all campuses offer the test.
More advanced techniques may be
taught with the agreement of the instruc-
tor. Students must supply their own safe-
ty glasses and welding gloves.
