Shorthand - Advanced.
in Shorthand - Basic Level, you will
study the theory and principles of
Forkner Shorthand and you should at-
tain a speed of 50-60 words per minute
on familiar material.
To be successful in the Shorthand - Ad-
vanced level, you must attain a speed of
80 words per minute by applying the the-
ory and principles learned in the Basic
level. Shorthand vocabulary-, phrasing,
and short-cut techniques will be devel-
oped. Persons who have learned anoth-
er system of shorthand within the past
three years but need to 'brush -up' their
skills can be accommodated.

Typewriting - 2050100 A
Beginners as well as More advanced
students can be accommodated. The
course is comprised of three levels: In-
troduction to Typewriting I, Introduction
To Typewriting II and Production
Typewriting. The student progresses
through these levels at his/her own
speed. Sturients with access to a type-
writer at home may progress at a faster
rate. Beginner typists should be able to
complete Introduction to Typewriting I
and begin Introduction to Typewriting I1
in one 12 week term. Students who
attend classes only one night per week
will take longer to achieve their goals. It
is possible to register for another term.
Topics include: typewriter operation,
typewriter keyboard, centering, tabula-
tion, business letters, outlines, reports,
manuscripts.

This course is designed to build confi-
dence and strengthen the skills of a for-
mer typist who wishes to re-enter the
work force. It will also assist a novice to
attain a greater speed with more accura-
cy. A basic knowledge of the typewriter
and the ability to operate a full keyboard
are required.

SELF IMPROVEMENT
Basic Assertiveness Training for
Adults - 1010150 S
This course is designed for adults who
feel. they lack the skills to respond to a
manipulative situation in an open and di-
rect fashion.
Emphasis is placed on the communica-
tion of one's feelings, preferences,
needs and opinions in a manner which is
neither passive nor aggressive, and
does not provoke anxiety or fear.
A group approach is used in teaching
assertiveness skills through role playing,
social learning, modelling and desensit-
ization. The aim of this course is to build
self-esteem and confidence in the partic-
ipants through group discussion and ex-
ercises. The course will also enable par-
ticipants to examine their behaviour and
evaluate their progress.

No experience reading blueprints is re-
quired. People who do read blueprints
could attend this as a refresher course.
Topics include: the history of drafting,
types of projections, linework, dimen-

Blueprint Reading (Electrical) -

This course will appeal to electrical tra-
despersons, those engaged in business-
es related to the electrical construction
industry, project managers, and con-
struction superintendents. Students will
learn to read and interpret electrical
blueprints and specifications and will
also obtain an introduction to the princi-
ples of electrical design. Topics of study
include lighting fundamentals, Electrical
Safety Code (Ontario) interpretations,
fire alarm systems, communication sys-
tems, and power distribution.
