Finish Carpentry And Cabinet
Making - 4010290 S
This is an individualized project -oriented
course, designed to provide students of
all skill levels with hands-on experience.
Students will acquire the knowledge and
skills required to use, efficiently and
safely, the types of hand tools and small
power tools readily available to the home
craftsperson. Students may, under close
supervision, utilize certain larger power
machines located in the Wood Products
Labat the College.
Each student will have the opportunity to
select a project on which to work, sub-
ject to teacher approval, the complexity
of which will depend on such factors as
the student's experience and skill level.
First-time students will be given gui-
dance in project selection. .
Safety will be emphasized throughout
the course. Students will be expected to
provide their own safety glasses. Leath-
er footwear must be worn. In addition,
hearing protection is recommended.
Students will require a note pad, pencils,
and a tape measure at their first class,
as well as the safety equipment specified
above. In order to get off to a good start,
it is recommended that students think
about their projects prior to the course •
start date.

Alternative Energy Design And
Building Construction - 4550010 S
Whether builder or farmer, homeowner
or apartment dweller, this course has
been developed to instruct participants
in the effecient use of energy and con-
struction materials.
As the title states, much of the emphasis
is directed to alternative design and uses
of energy resources which will minimize
the rate of consumption and result in
financial savings.
Topics of investigation will include hous-
ing styles and design, various methods
of confruction, energy sources and alter-
native.+systems. Analysis of the energy
sources embrace the ethics of environ-
mental cohabitation and will discuss the
optimization of oil, gas, electric fuels
with special attention given to wood
heating and solar engery.
Construction technquies include post
and beam, pole building, earth shelter,
insulation, applications and economics.

In this hands-on shopcourse, students
learn to use the tools and materials re-
quired for finish removal, refinishing and
furniture care. There is an additional

Hassle Free House Plants -

This three night course deals with
houseplant care, pest and disease prob-
lems and advice on how to keep
houseplants looking their best. Each
night, plants with different light requir-
ments will be introduced and demonstra-
tions on different methods of propaga-
tion will be done. Students will be able
to take home plants they have propa-
gated.

Picture Framing - 7050050 S
In this hands-on course, you will gain an
understanding of the basic materials and
techniques used in picture frame con-
struction. Topics covered include: shop
safety, purchasing simple mouldings,
milling mouldings, finishing techniques,
tools that can be used at home.
Student supplies are extra. Maximum
size of frame not to exceed 3 feet.

Topics include: the use of metal and
plastic pipes, how pumps and hot water
tanks work, repairing taps, soldering
and threading pipes. The objective of
this course is to eliminate unnecessary
repair costs and to have the homeown-
er prepared in case of emergencies.

Participants will learn the proper installa-
tion of basic electrical equipment, wiring'

LEISURE STUDIES
A Study of Birds: Preparation
For Bird Watching - 7050060 S
This course is designed to provide pro-
spective and experienced birdwatchers
with knowledge about birds and their
world, to help ensure future successful
bird watching expeditions. Students will
learn about bird biology, behaviour, hab-
itat, physiology and song. There will be
• one three-hour weekend field trip at the
end of the course to give students the
opportunity to test their newly acquired
identification skills.
