This course will interest you if you would like more information about Data Pro- cessing and/or if you are thinking of en- rolling in a programming course but aren't sure which programming lan- guage best suits your requirements. You will have an opportunity to take a more in-depth look at activities within a data processing department. Micro, mini and mainframe computers, data communica- tions and current computer application are topics which you will examine. You will be exposed to a computer text editor and introduced to programming lan- guages such as RPG and COBOL. You will be using the computer terminal to become familiar with these languages. You will be introduced to computer pro- gramming using COBOL which is a wide- ly used business -oriented programming language. Hands-on experience is gained through the use of computer terminals or .microcomputers. You will learn to program a computer us- ing the Basic Programming Language. You will be able to create, alter, and run a program of medium complexity using many of the more simple commands. Hands-on experience is gained through the use of micromputers. A minimum of twelve hours is provided during class hours and students may have access to machines at specified times outside of class. Persons who have not completed Com- puter Programming With BASIC Lan- guage I may be required by the teacher to demonstrate that they have the - prerequisite knowledge to be successful in Computer Programming With BASIC Language II. This course is intended to continue where Computer Programming With BA- SIC Language I leaves off. Emphasis is on Program structure and technique. You will be exposed to more advanced topics including elementary knowledge of files and matrices. Hands-on experi- ence is.gained throughlhe use of micro- computers. You will gain an understanding of the RPG logic cycle and its effect on program results. Topics include data definition, control level breaks, tables and report formating. Through topics such as multiple files processing, matching records, array and exception time execution, students will be able to produce and manipulate com- plicated real world reports and data files. indexed file processing method and chain operation will be utilized through illustration of batch program which will lead to the discussions of RPG on-line programming method.
