MANAGEMENT
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
(OMDP)
The Ontario Management Development
Program at Conestoga College offers
education in management and supervi-
sory skills. The objective of courses and
seminars in the program is to provide
managers and supervisors with practical
skills and knowledge which will improve
their ability to effectively utilize financial,
marketing, production and human re-
sources.
Each semester the College offers an ap-
propriate selection of courses.
NOT ALL COURSES ARE REPEATED
EACH SEMESTER.
Who Should Participate?
There's something for almost everyone -
owners/managers, senior middle and
junior executives, first-line supervisors,
union leaders and members If you want
to improve your managerial and/or lead-
ership skills, then you should attend!
Method Of Instruction
Utilizing the seminar and case -study ap-
proach, participants are encouraged to
analyze and discuss problems and their
solutions. Class sizes are purposely kept
small (15-2.5) to facilitate discussion and
the flow of ideas.
.OMDP Certificates
Conestoga College issues an Affirmation
to acknowledge the successful comple-
tion of each course.
The Ontario Ministry of Colleges and
• Universities acknowledges successful
completion of ,an entire program of stud-
ies, (i.e. a specified series of 6 courses)
by issuing one of 2 OMDP Certificates
through the Colleges.
1. Business Management Studies Certi-
ficate (BMS)
OR
2. Supervisory Studies Certificate (SS)
How To .. .
Choose Courses/Apply For
Certificates:
Prospective students should read the re-
quirements for each Certificate very
carefully. Courses must be selected from
• different 'categories'. Not all courses are
Offered each semester. Usually however,
there are courses available. from several
of the 'categories'. If you experience dif-
ficulty in selecting courses, or if you can-
not find a course in the 'category' you
need, please contact the nearest Contin-
uing Education office.
Students wishing to work on a second
Certificate should contact • Mr. David
Pinnington, Manager of Productivity Im-
provement and Mangement Studies at
653-2511 Extension • #327 before pro-
ceeding with course selection.
Business Management Studies
Certificate (BMS)
The courses for credit towards this certi-
ficate are identified under the following
'categories'
Cat. Group Heading
A. Business Management -General
B. Financial Control
C: Marketing
D. Production
E. Personnel Management And Labour
Relations
F: Electives
(OR up to two non-OMDP 'optional
credit .courses, see Page 29).
BMS Certificate Requirments
1. You must satisfactorily complete six
courses, selected as follows:
• 4 courses must be selected from
'categories A'througth E.
• Students must take these tour
courses from AT LEAST two 'cate-
gories'.
e The remaining 2 courses may be
selected from 'category' F, Elec-
tives. Or, these other 2 courses may
be non-OMDP courses identified as
'optional credits' on Page 29.
2. if you feel the 'category' F, Elective
courses do not meet your needs, you
may select your last 2 courses from
'categories' A through E.
3. How do you find the 'category' for
each course? Please look at the end
of each course description. Categor-
ies will bedesignated as BMS -A,
BMS -B and so on. Note: -The letter
'A' beside the course title does not
refer to the category. It signifies that
the College issues an Affirmation to
students who successfully complete.
4. If you have taken other management
courses at your place of work or
some other institution, the College
will consider granting credit for up to
2 of these courses as 'optional cred-
it.' Please bring proof of completion
to the nearest Continuing Education
Office.
5. No OMDP course or 'optional credit'
course may be applied towards more
than one OMDP Certificate.
6. All courses must have been complet-
ed within 5 years of the date on which
you completed your first credit
course.
7., After completing your fourth course,
you must contact the nearest Contin-
uing. Education°Office to confirm your
credits before selecting your final
courses.
8. Upon completion of your final re-
quirement, submit photocopies of
your Affirmations with a written re-
quest specifying the Certificate de-
sired to the nearest Continuing Edu-
cation Office. Please be sure to
indicate how you wish your name to
appear on this document and your.
mailing address.

(SS) .

Requirements
1. You must satisfactorily complete six
courses, selected as follows:
• 2 courses must be selected from
'category ' A.
• 1 course must be selected from
'category' B.
• The remaining 3 courses may be
selected from 'category' C, Elec
tives. Or 2 of these remaining 3
courses identified as 'optional
credits' on Page 29.
2. How do you find the 'category' for
each course? Please look at the end
of each course description. Categor-
ies will be designated as SS -A, SS -B
and so on. The Letter 'A' beside the
course title does not refer to the cate-
gory. It signifies that the College is-
sues an Affirmation to students who
successfully complete.
3. If you have taken other management

tising and promotion. It will help you de-
velop a complete promotional program
by following a step-by-step procedure
including: developing a business I.D.,
setting a promotional budget, preparing
effective ads and mailouts, evaluating
the success of yourpromotions.
