interest to personnel practitioners are
also offered, and are listed on page 27.
The courses which have been approved
by the PAO include: Personnel Manage-
ment Function (Tier 1), Organizational
Behaviour (Teir I), Training and Develop-
ment (Tier II), Compensation (Tier 0).
The courses being offered this semester
are listed below,
Organizational Behaviour - 2010020 A
The student will learn the principles of
human behaviour within a variety of or-
ganizational structures. Individual and
group behaviours will be discussed,
along with the related organization and
management theories presently in wide
use.
Typical organization and management
concepts will be reviewed, including the
principles and techniques employed for
introducing change.

Personnel Management Function -

The student will learn about typical per-
sonnel department structures within vari-
ous organizations and discuss them with
reference to size, union versus non-un-
ion, and line/staff relationships. Policy
formation and implementation, plus man-
power planning and organization meth-
ods are reviewed. An introduction to un-
ion relations from the personnel man-
agement point of view is presented.

ASSOCIATION OF CANADA
The Purchasing Management Associa-
tion of Canada is a nation-wide, unified
group of people in business who are di -

tly associated with the purchasing
function, and is dedicated to meeting the
�h Ilenges of modern purchasing. The
Professional Development programme of
the Association is designed t� help you
improve your skill in purchasing and to
provide you with a good general man-
agement point of view. Three basic, or
'principles', courses are required as the
first steps in the programme. There is an
exam at the end of each course and suc-
cessful students receive a diploma for
each course from the P.M.A.C. and
credit in the Association's Professional
Development programme.
Principles of Buying - 2410010 A
Men and women in industrial, commer-
cial, institutional and governmental buy-
ing will find this course useful. It will ap-
peal to newcomers to the purchasing
field and to experienced purchasing per-
sonnel who have not taken any courses
in their field. Topics include supplier se-
lection, negotiation, taxes and legal as-
pects of purchasing and considerations
of price, quantity, inventory and quality.
Sessions combine lectures, case studies
and group discussions. Students are ex-
pected to participate fully.

Principles Of Inventory &
Operations Control - 4370130 A
A basic course in which you will learn
about forecasting, production planning,
inventory planning, material require-
ments planning, input-output control, in-
teraction between purchasing, inventory
and production departments. On com-
pletion of the course, you should expect
to have a fuller understanding of this
function and will be able to perform more
effectively as a purchaser.

Principles Of Transportation

This course, designed specifically for
purchasing personnel, has three objec-
tives: 1) to aid purchasing personnel in
the development of an appreciation of
the interaction between purchasing and
transportation functions in supply sys-
tems; 2) to prc vide a description of the
transportation modes so that the general
nature of their rates and services may be
understood; 3) to help purchasing per-
sonnel develop skills in the selection and
control of transport services within the
context of the supply system.

QUALITY"ASSURANCE
The following courses are intended for
those who wish to obtain theoretical
knowledge and application experience
of quality Control.
The courses are offered in cooperation
with the Kitchener Section, and Ameri-
can Society for Quality Control (ASQC).
You do not have to be a member of the
Society or working in the Quality field to
take the courses.
Certification
The courses will help to supply the basic
technical requirements to write the ex-
aminations offered by ASQC for certifi-
cation as a Quality Technician and/or
Quality Engineer.
Upon completion of the first three cours-
es and with qualifying work experience
(approx. 4 years) students may apply
through their local ASQC section to write
examinations to become a Certified
Quality Control Technician (C.Q.T.)
Upon completion of all six courses and
having the qualifying employment record
(approx. 8 years) students may apply to
write examinations to attain the status of
a Certified Quality Engineer (C.Q.E.).
Please nota: Course content, examinia-
tion fees, and examination schedules are
determined by the ASQC.
Course Information
The following courses are forty-five
hours in duration and run for fifteen
weeks. Depending upon the needs of the
community the following courses may be
offered:
1) Fundamentals of Quality Assurance
2) Principles of Quality Assurance
3) Statistical Methods of Quality As-
surance
4) Management of Quality Assurance
5) Basic Concepts of Reliability
6) One optional credit acceptable to
the ASQC
Fundamentals Of Quality
Assurance -4430060 A
This course provides an introduction to
the role, played by the modern quality
function within a business organization;
control and assurance ,programs. The
student will have an opportunity to learn
about the nature of quality itself; the his-
tory of quality; factors which affect quali-
ty; quality inspection; verification; con-
trol and assurance programs. This
course will also deal with SPC (Statisti-
cal Process Control), which will include;
collection analysis and interpretation of
data, histograms of frequency distribu-
tion analysis, calculation of area under
normal curve, control charts for attrib-
utes and variables, probability and its
applications, attribute sampling.
