LAW CLERK COURSES
The following courses are offered joint-
ly by the Institute of Law Clerks of
Ontario and Conestoga College. Certifi-
cation will be granted by the Institute
upon successful completion of the
complete package and compliance with
rules and regulations of the Institute.
You do not have to be employed in the
field to take these courses or write the
examinations. However, you will not
attain status untii you have been in
qualifying employment for six consecu-
tive months.
These courses were developed by the
Institute in consultation with the Law So-
ciety of Upper Canada and members of
the profession.
The course start dates have been estab-
lished in order to complete prior to the
Institute examination dates.
Examination Procedures
There is an additional fee to write the ex-
aminations which will be collected at a
later date.
Examinations are two hours in length
and written on a Tuesday evening. All
papers are reviewed by the examiner
and his/her decision is final. The Insti-
tute will not enter into correspondence
or discussions with students in respect
to marks awarded.
An additional fee of $10 is required
should the student wish a copy of their
marked examination paper. A grade re-
port will be issued to each student, by
mail, from the Institute approximately
eight weeks later.
The following courses will be offered this
Winter and Spring to complete two
weeks before the province -wide exami-
nations: Corporate Law Procedures (14
weeks), Real Estate Procedures (16
weeks), Estate Procedures (14 weeks)
and Litigation Procedures (22 weeks).
Estate Procedures - 2170010 S
The preparation of wills, estate planning
and the processing of the estate upon
the death of a client will be covered. The
work would include: ascertaining details
of the assets and liabilities of the de-
ceased, preparation of the various forms
for the Surrogate Court and the Provin-
cial and Federal authorities to obtain
Probate or Letters of Administration, at-
tending to the administration and distri-
bution of the estate, the preparation of
accounts,etc. In this field it would be
necessary to be conversant with the
laws relating to Wills, trusts, Taxation,
Estates and the procedures of the ap-
propriate Courts and Revenue authori-
ties.

ministration particulary. It deals with the
Machinery of municipal governemnt,
how that Machinery functions under
stress and Modifications that can be/are
made. Finally the unit previews the Man-
agement Process in Municipal Adminis-
tration Program. New students ,are wel-

Management In The Large And Urban -
Municipality (Unit 5) - 2300307 A
The focus of this unit is effective man-
agement in large, urban centres. Topics
covered include Communications, Finan-
cial Management, and Human Re-
sources. Considerable attention is also
paid to Planning and Goal Setting.

PERSONNEL COURSES
The Certificate in Personnel Manage-
ment (CPM) is a course of study which
has been established by the Personnel
Association of Ontario (PAO) as the ba-
sic standards of knowledge for practi-
tioners in the .Personnel/Industrial Re-
lations field. All courses are at the
college/undergraduate level and may
be completed by successfully writing
the PAO examination or by passing,
with a 'B' standing, university or col-
lege courses which cover the subject
material in the PAO course outlines.
Successful completion of the CPM is
part of the requirement to become a Full
Accredited Member of the Association. It
is not necessary to be a member of PAO
to work towards the CPM, although one
must be a member in order to receive the
certificate.
There are ten CPM courses, which are
divided into two tiers of five courses
each. The first tier is comprised of foun-
dation subjects: Organizational Beha-
viour, Finance and Accounting, Person-
nel Administration Personnel Research,
and Labour Economics. These courses
are mandatory. One must also complete
three of the five Tier II courses, which
include: Industrial Relations, Manpower
and Organization Planning, Training and
Development, Compensation, and Health
and Safety.
