Another great comedia
from the age of vaudevill
has left the entertainmen
world, with the passing o
Phil Silvers. He began his
career oenflie vaudevill
stage in New York and
became a favorite with the
audiences. In the 1950s, he.
made . the transition to
television with his own series
and he endeared himself to a
different audience with_his
n magazines, and has been a
e consultant to the New York
t Times, the. Lo's Angeles
f Times and several Canadian
newspapers. In 1984 she
received a National Business
Writing Award for
Distinguished Achievement
in Canadian Buiness Jour-
nalism and she has been
nominated for the 1985
Woman of Distinction

YWCA. She is a graduate of
Queen's University,
Kingston, in history and
economics and speaks four
languages: English,
Chinese, French and Ger-
man.
Meanwhile, another CBC
news reporter, Mike Duffy,
is spending this month in
North Carolina after having
been selected to participate
in the Duke University
fellowship program for
visiting journalists. In ad-
dition to his studies at the
university, Mike will be a
guest lecturer for the
uniiversityCanadian studies_.__
program. For many years a
Parliament Hill reporter for
the CBC, Mike's studies will
involve international
politics, with particular
reference to the_Middle-East.____
and terrorism.

Der Hoi-Yin used to write a
business column for the
Vancouver Sun where she
has been a reporter for the
past 10 years. When she
'became business columnist,
it was the first time the
position had been filled since
it was vacaited in the early
70s by Pat Carney, now the
federal energy minister. Hoi-
Yin has also written for the
Financial Times. Canadian
Business and other business
