The Royals dominated all three periods, taking a 2-0 lead in the first and holding it at 3-1 in the second before clinching the victory with four consecutive goals in the first five minutes of the final period to make it 7-1. The Sepoys (formerly the L.angqers, now with new uniforms) scored some flukey goals late in the game, which only served to inflate Ron Smith's goals - against average. With a handful of regulars still missing from the lineup due to injuries, the ttoyals reached down into their farm system for Brian Hastie, Bill LeVan and Paul Mont- gomery and got solid efforts from all three. Brian Hastie scored his first goal as a Royal and LeVan picked up an assist, playing on a line with Randy Clarke, while Montgomery played a vigorous game on defence, filling in for the absent Bernie Haines. The Royals also benefitted from the return to action of Clarke and Mark Foxton, both of whom played well after having missed several games with knee injuries. Clarke was his usual speedy self, picking up a goal and an assist and also doing a dandy job killing penalties, while Foxton chipped in an assist. Again the Wingham attack was led by Dave Stephenson and Ken Cousins, reunited on a line with Foxton. These two, who have been playing sensational hockey during the past couple of weeks, accounted for a total of eight scoring points in this match. fl Cousins had the hat trick and two assists while Stephen- H son, who seemed to be in i overdrive all night long, a scored two goals and set up f another. t An unsunghero was utility' : 6 - player Kevin Hastie, who in had a goal and an assis while turning in a stalwa performance at the Roya blueline. Coach Larry Lan has used Hastie either as winger or on defence thi year, and he has played we at both positions. The Royals broke on to near the midway point of th first period, Stephenso getting the puck from Cousins and Len Stampe and parking it just inside th post, beating goalie Alla Dyck. Kevin Hastie made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal picking off a pass and making no mistake as he skated in alone to score his first goal of the season. The Sepoys got on the scoreboard midway through the second period as they got the Royals running around in their own end before Steve McPherson's shot found the mark behind Smith. The Royals could have had several goals in the period as they poured on the pressure, especially during a couple of power plays, whistling shots all around the Lucknow net. Finally, with just 13 seconds left in the period, Cousins scored an unassisted power play goal to restore the two - goal margin. Crossing the blueline with his wingers in full flight, the rangy centre played it perfectly, pausing to let his wingers go wide and then whistling a wrist shot from the slot that Dyck never touched. Determined not to let this game slip away, as some others had earlier in the season, the Royals poured it on in the third period. Thirty seconds into the period Cousins scored again, picking up a rebound with the goalie flat on the ice and inning it into the open net. Eleven seconds 1 e Brian astie made it 5-1, breaking n with Clarke and LeVan nd scoring on a wrist shot rom the slot. Three minutes later it was l •as'Cousins"paid the price the corner to set up t Stephenson in front of the net rt for a power -play goal, and 1 less than two minutes later e Clarke made it 7-1, scoring a on a backhander from the s slot following a nice bit of 11 forechecking. With time running down, p the Lancers made it more e respectable with a couple of n soft goals. Grant Murray picked up the first, darting in ✓ to poke the puck the last e couple of inches into the net n ager Allan Eadie's shot had squirted past Smith and was rolling in the crease. Eugene Johnston made it 7-3 when he somehow got his stick on the puck despite being manhandled by Mont- gomery and deflected Grant Gilchrist's shot past Smith. Cousins finished his hat trick with 4:07 left in the game, firing a shot just in- side the post. Two minutes later the Sepoys finished the scoring, with Gilchrist•'s shot from the corner of the net drifting between Smith's skates and into the goal. ROYAL REPORTS— With Clarke and Foxton back in action and a couple of new players pressed into service, the Royals had three lines going in this game and it seemed to help. Everyone was still going strong at the end of the third period. Bill LeVan and Brian Hastie played well with Randy Clarke on the second line, while . Dave Burns centred Bob Alton and Ken Fitzgerald on the third line. PeeWees gain tie at Port The Wingham Legion PeeWees traveled to Port Elgin last Tuesday and came home with a tie in league play. Port, Elgin opened the scoring at. the 10 -minute mark of the first period and, if not for - the strong goal- tending of Bill McGrath, could have taken a com- manding lead. Wingham managed to tie the score with 40 seconds left in the period when Rob Harrison batted in a rebound, with Steve Michie getting the assist. However Port Elgin continued to dominate and added another goal midway through the second. period. Coach Bill Brown got his charges regrouped in the third period and moved Don Heinmiller to forward from his usual defensive position to give the team added strength and hustle. The move paid off with Hein - miller scoring the tying goal, assisted by Jeff McKee. Wingham was very for- tunate indeed to gain a tie. Hopefully the boys now realize they have to play a full three periods to remain competitive in the B league. It Phone 357-1630 for 24 hour movie PLAYING FRIDAY AND SATURDAY DECEMBER 6TH AND 7TH ONLY. Royals and fits in well, providing some added muscle on defence. Dave Stephenson and Ken Cousins continue to lead the team offensively. They can do some amazing things and no team yet has been able to stop them when they are on top of their game. Stephenson in particular seems to be skating in over- drive and the only time the Sepoys were sure where he was was when he was in the penalty box sitting out a couple of roughing calls. Ken Fitzgerald joined brother Sandy on the injury list. He had to be carried off with what appears to be a badly bruised knee after setting up Cousins' third goal late in the game and might be out for a couple of weeks. Brian TenPas, who went out early in the season with a knee injury, will require surgery and be out for the rest of the season. In spite of an early lead in the first period, the Jokers fell behind 13-5 at the hands of the Kinucks. Joker rookie Brett Martin opened the scoring for Wing - ham in the first period with two quick goals, one at 2:14 and the other , at 5:59. A powerplay ',marker,,.#, ,,,r the Kinucks' Dave Petteplace at 9:47 opened the floodgate. The Kinucks followed with five unanswered goals to take a 6-2 lead after 20 minutes of play. Petteplace scored again at 11:55; Mike Zuzek scored at 13:18; Jamie Emmerton at 14:37; Dan Shaw at 14:43 and Sean Burton at 14:57. The Kin- cardine side outshot the Wingham club 18-6 in the first frame. The Jokers opened the second period with a scoring flurry to narrow the gap to 6- 4. Trevor Pocaluyko scored for Wingham at the 2:49 mark nd Paul Tolton at 5:46. Hlver that was the closest the Wingham team ever got as three unan- swered goals were scored by the Kinucks: Petteplace at 9:35, Emmerton (short- handed) at 10:53 and Burton at 17:07. This staked the visitors to a comfortable 9-4 lead. The Jokers' Jamie Robin- son got one back for the home side at 18:49 to round out the second -period scor- ing. The Kinuck shooters proved to be deadly accurate in this period, scoring three goals on only eight shots. The Jokers fired 46 shots on Kinuck goalie Kelly Mundle. The third period was all Kincardine as they took care of all the scoring in the final frame. Kinuck goals were scored by Burton at 6:32; Mich Landry at 7:42; Burton at 17:38 and Derrick Skinner at 19:31. The teams skated off the ice with the Kinucks celebrating a well-deserved 13-5 victory. Several Kinuck shooters padded their scoring statis- tics in this game. Burton led the pack with seven points on four goals and three assists. Petteplace, Landry, Doug Harris and Emmerton all had four -point evenings for the Kinucks. It was a quiet evening in the penalty' box with a total of 10 minors called in the game, five to each side. Joker fans will be in- terested to note that the time for all home games has been changed to 4 p.m. on Sun- days from 7:30 Sunday evenings. Also, a Feb. 9 home game against the Goderich Sailors has been changed to Friday, Dec. 13, at 8:30 p.m. Red-hot Hawks down Jokers 9-3 By Lee Cowley The Wingham Junior C Jokers fell victim to a red- hot Walkerton Blao'k Hawk team last Friday night at the Walkerton arena. When the smoke had cleared after the first period, the Jokers found themselFes on the losing end of a 6-0 score. Trevor McHarg counted an early marker for the Hawks at 1:40. This was followed by goals by Dan Hill at 13:00 and Wade Girdler at 13:37. Ken Helmka of the Hawks then took it upon him- self to single-handedly sink the Jokers with three con- secutive goals — a true hat trick — within 17 seconds, scoring at 16:11, 16:21 and 16:28. However the Stainton squad overwhelmed the Dodgers for a 12-2 win. Missing several players, Crawfords couldn't seem to mount any offence (or defence for that matter). Staintons built a 5-1 lead after one period and in- creased the lead to 9-1 by the end of the second frame. Harry Wilson had a big night in the Crawford net as Staintons fired shot after shot at him. At times it appeared as if most of the Dodgers- had forgotten their skates as Stainton moved the puck at will. Kevin Coulter had a big night for Staintons with seven goals. Stan Stapleton 'and--Da-ve-Deruder had two - goals apiece while Dave Martin had a single. Terry Pautler and Ken Tervit had the only goals for Crawfords. Last Tuesday night the third-place Newsboys played the last -place Bridge Motors Mustangs. Bridges dominat- ed the play throughout the game, but had a hard time putting the puck past Ray Baynton in the Advance - times net. In fact, the Newsboys tooka 4-3 lead into the third period.
