PeeWes gain split
in exibition play
The Wingham Legion
PeeWees played a couple of
exhibition games with
Listowel last weekend,
losing Saturday at Listowel
by a 9-2 score and winning 5-3
at home on Sunday.
On Saturday Wingham
opened the scoring at the 28 -
second nyark of the first
period on a fine passing play
with Jeff McKee getting the
goal and Scott Neil assist,ng.
Listowel came back Lo tie
the score before McKee got
his second goal to send
Wingham ahead 2-1, assisted
by Rob MacKay.
From that point on
Listowel took over and
scored eight unanswered
goals, dominating play and
skating to an easy victory.
Sunday the Wingham boys
were out for revenge and
played three solid periods of
hockey, showing Listowel
they are a far better team
than they had appeared on
Saturday.
Neil got Wingham's first
goal on a fine passing play
from MacKay and Steve
Michie. Listowel came back
to tie the score before the end
of the period.
Wingham kept working
hard and went ahead again
on a goal from Peter Poulin,
who 'gave an excellent
second effort to slam the
puck home. Dave McKee and
Neil picked up assists.
• Wingham came out flying
in the third period, out-
scoring Listowel 3-2, and
ending up with a well-
deserved win. Third -period

with Jeff McKee and Steve
Michie each getting two
assists and Jason Bloemberg

Tim Currie was moved to
right wing from his normal

times .to put the game out of
-reach. The 'final score was
10-3.
Scoring for Wingham were
Ryan Deyell with two and
Matthew Hunter. Assists
went to Ken Hogg, Murray
MacLeod and Mike MacKay.
On Saturday the Atoms
played Durham. This was
the second meeting of the
season for these two teams
and, like the first meeting,
the Optimist Atoms failed to
score on Durham. Following
a scoreless first period,
Durham went on to win the
game 5-0.
Greig shines
for Howick
Michael Greig had an
exceptional game in
Tiverton last Wednesday
evening for the Howick
Atoms as he scored four
goals to lead his team to a 6-2
win.
Kyle Wheeler and Danny
MacGregor added singles for
Howick, while MacGregor,
Ryan Gallaher and Aaron
Stewart had two assists each
and Michael Hargrave and
Trevor Smith had one each.
Dennis Wintemute made
some good saves to keep
Howick close at the start of
the game.
ATOM ANTICS -The
coaches were very pleased
with the play of the three
defencemen, especially Sam
Doubleday.
rhe Howick Atoms made it
two wins in a row over
Tiverton in a game played
Sunday night in Howick by a
count of 4-3.
Wheeler had three goals
and one assist to lead
Howick, while Gallaher had
one goal and one assist to
help the Howick cause.
Michael Hargrave and
Jason D'Arcey each had two
assists for Howick, while
MacGregor had a single.
Wintemute made some key
saves in the Howick net as
Tiverton continually out-
played the Howick squad for
the last half of the game.
ATOM ANTICS -The line
of Wheeler, Gallaher and
Hargrave had a very good
night, 'especially Hargrave
with his diligent work in the
corners.

Howick PeeWes take
crown at tourna ent
Last Saturday members of
the Howick WOAA PeeWees
traveled to Hillsburgh to
participate in a hockey
tournament. The local lads
managed to capture the "A"
championship for the second
year .in a row.
The Howick team received
outstanding goaltending
from Mark Fraser and Peter
Stewart, especially in the
second and third games.
Howick had little trouble
defeating Watford 7-0 in the
first game. John Greig
showed his speed by scoring
two goals within 25 seconds
around the eight -minute
mark of the first period. The
first tally was unassisted,
however Greig received
good passes from Philip
Livermore and Jason
Jacobson on the second
,marker.
Steven Gibson took a neat
pass from Philip Livermore
to give Howick a 3-0 lead
after one period. ' '
Gibson scored the only
goal of the second frame,
taking passes from Donald
Livermore and Jason
Douglas.
Howick scored three
unanswered goals in the
third period off the sticks off
Steve MacGregor, Philip
Livermore and Jacobson.
Two of the goals were on the
power play, Jaret Henhoef-
fer, Jacobson, Jayson Potts,
Greig an'd Gibson drew as-
sistson the goals.
I
The second game was a
rematch of last year's final
as the boys played a strong
team from Erin. This game
proved just as exciting and
the fans went away ap-
plauding both squads.
The first period was
scoreless as both teams
missed many good scoring
chances. Erin jumped into a
1-0 lead after two minutes of
play in the second period.
Gibson tied the game for
Howick on a hard slapshot
outside the blue line, which
seemed to catch the Erin
goalie off -guard.
Gibson gave Howick a 2-1
lead after taking passes
from Taylor 'and Henhoeffer
before Gibson set up
Henhoeffer on a great two -
on -one passing play just at
the close of the second
period. This sent Howick to
'Hit the trails this winter. Club
Escapade* makes it easy and affordable.
Club Escapade is a time-sharing
program.
You have the exclusive use of a new
1986 Ski -Doo® snowmobile for a specific
the dressing room with a 3-1
lead after two periods.
The third period was filled
with fast -skating hockey,
hard hits and near misses on
goals by both teams. Erin
scored with 48 seconds
remaining in the game and it
was a hectic 48 seconds as
Erin pulled its goalie. This
gave the Erin team a big lift
and Howick was pressured in
its own end. Stewart, in the
Howick net, had to come up
with at least three excellent
saves to preserve the win for
Howick and send his team
against Beverly in the final.
The Howick-Beverly
match was a good one as
Beverly won the OMHA "E"
division championship last
season and Howick was the
OMHA's "D" finalist.
The outcome of the game,
the way the boys played and
the reaction of the fans
proved this to be true.
Gibson got things going for
Howick on a breakaway
after taking a pass from
Jacobson. The Beverly team
replied with two successive
goals to give it a 2-1 lead
after two periods.
Howick scored two
unanswered goals in the
second period to give the
team a 3-2 lead. Greig scored
an unassisted marker and
Jacobson scored from Greig
and Henhoeffer on the third
goal.
With some hard work,
Beverly tied the game with
five minutes remaining.
'Howick responded with a
goal off the stick of Gibson
just 33 seconds later. Steve
MacGregor And Henhoeffer
drew assists.
Howick played well
defensively in the last four
minutes to win the match 4-3.
Gibson, Jacobson and
Greig were presented with
the championship trophy.
Each member of the team
was presented with a
medallion.
RON'S ROUND -UP
Goaltenders Stewart and
Fraser , played their best
hockey 'of the season. Gibson
was voted most valuable
player for Howick in both the
second and third games, a
well-deserved honor.
