Winners of turkeys were: Doreen Tuplin, Rob Burk- holder, Kathy Burkholder, Sarah Anstett, Julie Janes, Mina Reich, Donna Black, Mrs. Eluned McNair, Viola Adams, Martha Logan, MargBennett and Marlene Hall. N • G 2WO and the Blyth Singers also visited and sang some hymns with the residents: Fred Thuell, Donald Dunbar and Howard Smith entertained with their old- time music last Wednesday evening and Mrs. Ann Smith entertained the residents with hymns last Thursday morning, followed by en- tertainment provided by Gord Harrison's Band from Goderich in the afternoon with favorites old and new. Mrs. Lillian Cox cele- brated her 87th birthday on Nov. 22. The discussion group, le by volunteers Karen Cardiff and Jeanette Baynton, chatted with residents recently over tea and cookies. The nursing home always welcomes visitors and especially during the Christmas holiday season. During the holidays, visitors can participate in ' the Christmas Wish Draw by filling out a ticket. CGIT girls hold Vesper Service GORRIE — The Canadian Girls in Training group held its Vesper Service Sunday evening in the Gorrie United Church.. A medley of Christmas carols was played' prior to the service by Mrs. Gladys Adams. "Star of the East" was sung by Jim Schefter as the CGIT members entered the church. Numerous carols were sung by the congregation. Scripture readings w re -interspersed with th IT choir, singing "Away m a Manger" and a solo, ,"Go Tell it on the Mountain", was sung by Mrs. Lois Lee. The banner across the choir loft spelled "Christ- mas" in . large letters and was decorated with tinsel. The choir sang "C -H -R -I -S -T- M -A -S". Rev. Don Pugh reminisced on ' Christmas memories before the girls left the choir loft and were presented with lighted candles during the solo, "Silent Night". Mr. Pugh pronounced the benediction. They also are having lots of fun with their reading bud- dies in Mrs. Kaufman's Grade 2 class. They have built great relationships and found new friends during this experience. Another new friend and classmate is Hilary Gauld, a new student in the class. She fits in very well and has many new friends. She is very welcome to the class. =Amy Bateman Mrs. Anderson's .reading readiness class already is into the Christmas spirit. They have ' been working on Christmas activities, such as visual perception, language. and understanding why we have Christmas. They have started two new alphabet sound books. Last week Mrs. Anderson attended a . meeting_ -.at high school for the north region school resource teachers. They talked about the high school transition for senior students and concern about integration from self- contained classrooms. —Christa Crawford like a grandmother to the students and reads stories to them with great patience. She never has forgotten her ability to teach even though she is. retired: —Amy Bateman We have ' finished our photography unit until after Christmas. We have used the cameras from the board' office at Clinton to tape in- terviews. We also have used the portapack to tape dif- ferent things around the school. Our . class went to CKNX to seewhat the people do there. ,Everybody used the mixer and we went to the board office at Clinton to edit the tapes that we made. All of our class enjoyed the unit on photography. —Scott Gillespie This year at the book fair we had a wide selection of books. They range from picture books to romances. We also had a very good •n.. , the parents who made 'an effort to come with their children to shop. All in all, it was a very successful book fair. Mrs. Chamney, a very special helper comes in to help the children. She is v teaching the students about Christmas in other 'lands. The classes are reading Christmas books and start- ing Christmas activities. Grade 1 also is buys learning to count by 'fives. Colleen Smith This week Mrs. McKeon'§ class finished the unit on the telephone books. They phoned a robot (recording) and are beginning multipli- cation. They are going to be- gin a Christmas unit. —Jennifer Cameron This week in French, the Grade 7s learned a lot of new words in their vocabulary games. This game is like bingo, but after the game they have spelling dictation in French. They use the game sheets to study for the dictation. The Grade 7s also have been working on .the verb • "faire", which means ' "to be" or "to do". They did some work in their notebooks on it as well. Even after the professional development day, no one had trouble with French. —Kirsten Keil Last Monday,, the Grade is went. to see "Curious George". This was a production of the Erewhon Theatre where two men play - the parts: The materialused for the play •was 'from a variety of Curious George books. The class left for the East Wawanosh Public School at 12:45 p.m. and arrived back in Wingham at 2:30 p.m. Later that day the children made pictures and mane at—thc saw. Grade 1 really enjoyed, this experience. —Todd Chadwick . Everyone in Mrs. Kauf- man's class really enjoyed "Curious George', the Erewhon Theatre presen- tation at East Wawanosh. Mrs. Schedlex and._Mrs. Thew are- in -their - 'Kings Grade 1-2 is becoming very much involved in Christmas. They are working on a play, called "The Sulky Brownies" for the school Christmas assembly. Mrs. King will be classroom doing activities such as making masks to look like Curious George. Others are writing new adventures for Curious George. —Heather Bishop THE ANNUAL. BOOK FAIR was held recently at the Wingham Public School. Students of all ages came to purchase books and look over the wide variety and selection available. (What's News Photo)
