It was not en- tertaining, nor uplifting, nor inspirational. It was powerful and emotional drama that left the viewer disturbed and with many questions, thinking about issbes that we do not like to confront or deal 'with at the gut level. "The Execution of Raymond Graham" chronicled the last few hours in the life of a convicted murderer and was seen last week on the ABC network in the US and the CTV network here in Canada. As his lawyers tried in vain to win him more time, the viewer became part of his struggle and ' anguish. At the end of the two-hour telecast, one felt totally drained emotionally as the sharing of feelings and hopes on Death Row culminated in the long walk to the final stretcher andt it-ee-W needles. Hair & Scalp Specialists Kitchener - St. Catharines . Hamilton The Canadian production, set in a US state, was not a statement for or against capital punishment. Though it was Raymond Graham's agony we sTiareir , Thalso told the story of the other family, that of his 16 -year-old victim, a worker in a convenience store, unarmed and alone, who died at Graham's hand during a robbery. For that family, life had also come apart at the seams, the father "dying" with his son and the home ;disrupted because of the tragedy. • The most exciting part of the production is that most of it was produced live, a procedure that was common in the 1950s but became a thing of the past when v i d c ot-a-pe- b eeare-t-he-g acme10:5acmeNation's Business 11:00 Q% Sportsweek 01 FYI Weekend Edi- tion ®New sfinal ® C1'V National News ® News 11:20 ® Ski Base I® Ontario Report © Sneak Previews 11:30 ®19 Sports Final Edition QQ Too Close For Comfort ® Insight ® Dateline Ontario 010 Charlie And Company Charles In Charge 11:45 ® At The Movies 11:50 ® Movie "Death Of A Scoundrel" 12:00 ID More Real People ® 19 Ironside O® The Avengers Q Movie "Out Of The Past" 0 Movie "Death Penalty" • s Movie "Bermuda Triangle" ID Special: The Mil- lionaire Maker I D Rugby Special ® Twilight Zone ® The Beckley Group © The Making of In- diana Jones 12:30 m World Cricket Champ. What excitement to know that every move and every word is right there before the public; there is no going back. If you goof, you goof! Videotape somehow took the spontaneity and enthusiasm , out of live television. Although, after two hours in this drama, the participants must have been totally exhausted and unable to function. Jeff Fahey turned inra powerful performance as Raymond Graham, acting certainly worthy of an to Ti h was what made it so meaningful. Kate Reid had a secondary role as his mother in the movie directed by Daniel Petrie, Reid and Pe ri-ie`15bt, part of the old school of liVe television who have many good things to say about it. Wouldn't it be nice if we could return to live productions and bring some of that excitement hack to our livingrooms? award Letting th s are is hopes and.fears often tumultous public and private lives right up until Ien- non's death in 1980.
