Tose to Kincardine WOflS top Ircnmen in Junior C rematch By Lee Cowley Friday evening saw a rematch of last Sunday's combatants, the Hanover Barons and Wingham Iron - men. This match was almost a replay of the earlier contest, with the Barons dominating on the score- board and taking advantage of virtually every Wingham error. The Wingham club was often able to skate with the Barons, but could not finish plays successfully. The Barons started quickly with three unan- swered goals. Dave Hopkins deflected a perfect pass from Terry Whiteside at 3:27 to put the Barons on the score- board. Whiteside staked the home side to a 2-0 lead at 6:05 when his long shot from centre ice fooled John Turn- bull in the Wingham net. Hopkins completed a perfect two -on -one break 35 seconds later to give his club a 3-0 lead. The Barons almost scored again when Turnbull was caught way out of his net, but defenceman Rob Willis was johnny-on- the-spot, fighting off two Bears at the Wingham goal - mouth. In the second period the Hanover team continued where it left off in the first, scoring four times in the early going to take a 7-0 lead before Dave Montgomery deiced goalie Robbie Nixon out of his goaltending gear to put Wingham on the board at 16:34. Hanover goals were by Tim Davis at 4:31, Mike Lemenchuk at 6:45 and Hopkins at 10:36 and 14:10 to complete his four -goal night. Hopkins' third goal was a thing of beauty as he skated the length of the ice before releasing a hard slapshot at the Wingham blueline that completely handcuffed Turnbull. At this point Coach Brian Skinn made a goal- tending change, putting Greg McClement between the pipes. The third period was evenly matched, with each team scoring three times. The Hanover goals all carne on the power play. Whiteside rifled a high shot„ to McClernent's glove side at 1:03 to raise the margin to 8-1. Trevor Pocaluyko came back at 2:53 with the prettiest goal of the evening when he broke away at centre ice, beating Nixon on his strong glove side. Chris Ahrens at 9:35 and Don Neil at 14:14 put the Barons up 10-2 before the Wingham side countered with goals by Tim Brown at 14:51 on a Nixon miscue and Jason Goodall at 19:26 on a power play • Howick Pee Weesgive scOrekeeper nightmare The Howick PeeWees' scoring machine was in high gear last Saturday evening as the lads recorded a lop- sided 15-0 victory over the host Clifford PeeWees.
