Bryan Adams was the big
winner in last week's Juno
Award presentations in
Toronto, not only claiming a
number of awards but also
providing one of the
evening's big moments with
a supercharged duet with
Tina Turner that brought the
audience to its fleet. What a
super feeling to know our
Canadian' performers are
doing so well, not just in their
own country but also abroad.
Adams, a Vancouver per-
former, was named top male '
vocalist, with his partner,
Jim Vallance, was named
composer of the year and
also received a Juno for his
album, "Reckless", follow-
ing hot on the heels of last
year's winner, "Cuts Like .a
Knife".
Montreal performer Corey
Hart had the singleerof the
year, "Never Surrender";
Luba was awarded the Juno
for top female vocalist; and
Parachute Club was named
the top group. „
A special Juno was given
to the people of Canada for
their generous support of.
African famine relief after
the release of "Tears Are
Not Enough" by Northern
Lights, a production that
brought more Canadiar0
stars together for a record-
ing than ever before.
Millions of dollars in relief
.aid were raised from that
recording. David Foster,
iwho won the ,Juno for top
producer for his Work on
"Chicago", was responsible
for "Tears Are Not
Enough".
Classical music awards
went to the Montreal
Symphony Orchestra and the
Orford String Quartet. -Don
•Thompson won the jazz
award and .The Cana'jian
Brass won the instrum ntal
Juno. Country awards Gwent
to Anne Murray, Murray
McLauchlan and the Family
Brown. Again, Murray didn't
think it worth her while to
attend the ceremonies;
perhaps she was busy
elsewhere.
The Canadian recording
industry presents two in-
ternational awards, for top
album and single. Bruce
Springsteen's "Born in the
U.S.A." was named top
album and "I Want To Know
What Love Is" by Foreigner
won the single Juno Award.

"HEADHUNTER"
What happens when suc-
cessful criminal lawyers de-
cide to turn into fiction?
' Tune into CBC Television's
Growski & Co. at 7:00 p.m.
on Tuesday, November 19 to
find out. Interviewed are
three Vancouver lawyers
who decided to put their real-
life experience with the
criminally insane to use and
• jointly penned the flashy fic-
tion thriller "Headhunter".
The book has received rave
reviews, launching the trio
into the glittering world of
international best selling
authors, although it is decid-
edly too grotesque for some
tastes. To quote Growski,
"It's bad enough that people
do these sots of things, but
what kind of people would
want to write about them?"
With that question in mind,
Growski sets out to interview
the :three criminal lawyers,
Jay Clark, John Banks and
Richard Covell who com-
bined their collective 37
• years' experience in law to
write the crime novel under
the name of Michael Slade.
What he finds are three law-
yers, who, although' they
write fiction, possess a
knowledge of real life vio-
lence crime which: is very
comprehensive. Their know-
ledge ranges far beyond le-
gal. definitions and case law
precedents and spills over
into the special arcane sci-
ences, such as fibre foren-
sics, that make up modern
criminology. We get an inti-
mate glimpse of these .men
who know only too well from
personal experience with
psychopathic convicts that
there are no limits in the real
world of violent crim.
