Their seat, College Classics, placed second out of 12 sets. Others in the set from this area were Jacquie Robertson of Bluevale and Kevin Bishop of Walton. Steve Fonyo presented the winners with their awards. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Timm, Kitchener, visited with Pat Campbell and Mrs. Camp- bell, who is in hospital. We understand she is not well at present, but hope for her improvement. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Clark spent a couple of days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Fraser Pollock and Todd in Bramalea. Mrs. Tom Powell, Kit- chener, visited over the weekend with her father, Clifford and Mrs. Marks. Congratulations are ex- tended to Mrs. Margaret Adams, who celebrated her 98th birthday last week. WMS meeting held in church parlor BRUSSELS — The Novem- ber meeting of the Women's Missionary Society of Mel- ville Presbyterian Church was held recently in the church parlor with a good crowd in attendance. The president, Mrs. Margaret McLeod, opened the meeting with a poem, "God Give Me a Pure Spirit". The hymn "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" was sung with Mrs. King at the piano. The secretary's report was given by Mrs. , Ruby Steiss and the treasurer's report by Mrs. Evelyn Mair. The subscriptions for Glad Tidings were taken by Mrs. Mair in, the absence of Mrs. Perrie. Mrs. Ruth Martin gave a report from the nominating committee. The collection was taken by Mrs. Mair and dedicated by Mrs McLeod. Mrs. Steiss gave a story about a woman's ministry, "Watering Camels Is Spiritual". The song "His Name Is Wonde rful" was sung. Mrs. Stephens gave a reading from Glad Tidings on refugees in Canada. A duet was sung by Mrs. Mary Douma and Mrs. Peggy. Aitcheson, "The Love .of God". The .scripture, from Romans, was read by Mrs. Helen Elliott and Mrs. Isabel Adams led in prayer. Mrs. Isabel Gibson gave an in- troduction to the film "Banners of ' Love". Mrs. _McLeod took charge for the Mtn and afterward led" a .. discugsion on the Bible and medical missonaries The hymn "Christ to the World We Sing" was sung, and Mrs. Elizabeth Jamieson closed the meeting with a prayer. A delicious lunch was served by Mrs'. Elliott and her committee • and a social time enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Gibson, Oshawa and David Gibson and children 'Sonnya and Nathan of Sarnia visited recently with their father and grandfather, Gordon Gibson. Brian and Aileen Manuel and Amanda of Heritage Estates, Seaforth,-were visitors last Saturday evening with Mrs. Allan Griffith. MRS. WILLIAM SOTHERN Bishop conducts Sunday service GORRIE — The Right Reverend Morse C. Robinson, D.D., Suffragan Bishop of Huron, was the. celebrant and preacher Sunday . at St. Stephen's Anglican Church. Members of the congregation from Trinity Church, Fordwich, also were in attendance. The . rector, Rev. William Gray, assisted and organists and choir directors were Mrs. Jean Underwood and Mrs. Lynda Kerley of St. Stephen's and Mrs. Marian Marsh of Trinity Church. Andrea Lynn Benninger was received into baptism. Confirmation candidates were Sam John Doubleday, Paul McHugh Judge, Yvonne Louise Judge, Bill Williams and Tanya Jane Williams. The Howick Central School Band, under the direction of Phil Parsons, played sacred melodies. Special music also was provided by the St. Stephen's senior and junior choirs. Mrs. „Ruth Gray and Mrs. Marsh sang the_ Baptismal Try -inn. Following the service a social hour was spent Fordwich The sympathy of the community is extended to Mrs. Jean Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Harding and families in the death of a dear mother and grand- mother, Mrs. Janet Harding, last Saturday. The funeral service was held Monday from the M. L. , Watts Funeral Home, Gorrie. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey B ide of Don Mills visited Snday with Mrs. Edna Doig. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vanderheyden and family spent the weekend with relatives in Cornwall. Quite a number of Ford- wich senior citizens were guests of the Wingham seniors last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. John Baker and family visited Sunday with his mother, Mrs. Baker, of Listowel. Mr. and Mrs. John Lep- pington and girls were supper guests Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Miller. Jamie Baker of Waterloo was a weekend guest with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Baker. WMS meets at Scott home BELGRAVE — The WMS meeting was held Nov. 4 at the home of Mrs. Mac Scott. Mrs. John McBurney presided and opened with the call to worship. Mrs. Joe . Dunbar read scripture, Psalm 46. Mrs. Garner Nicholson led in prayer. Mrs. Ivy Cloakey read the poem, "Why Wear a Poppy?" The roll call was answered with a verse on "remem- brance." The secretary's report was given ' by Mrs. McBurney and Mrs. Victor Youngblut read the treasurer's report. The topic read by Mrs. Scott was"a story by Frank Morgan, "Happiness is not something to.seek, but it can . be found." Mrs,Scott also read two poems, "Making Friends" and "To Be a Friend." The collection was dedi- cated and 16 sick and shut-in calls were recorded. Mrs. McBurney closed the meeting with prayer ' and lunch was served by the hostess • Young couple is Wed on a beautiful fall day A beautiful fall wedding took place on Saturday, Oct. 19, when Irene deVries was united in marriage with David tenPas at 3 p.m. at the Berean Bible Chapel, Wing - ham. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Carl deBoer of Japan, the bride's uncle. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith deVries of Wingham and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry tenPas of RR 2, Wingham. The young couple ex- changed their vows amid a beautiful setting of can- delabra, decorated with pink and white carnations. The two ushers, Dennis Melton and Tom McGlynn, lit the, candles in. the candelabra prior to jthe ceremony. The bride chose a floor- length gown of white polyester, featuring three tiers of French lace on the front, long sleeves with lace on the cuffs, a lace train and bustle. She wore a hat with • matching lace trim and carried a bouquet of red roses and baby's breath. Evelyn Lennips was her best friend's honor attendant and she wore a pink lace dress with a scalloped top, long sleeves and carried a bouquet of red roses, pink carnations and heather. She als'e wore an off- yhite hat. The best man was Wayne tenPas. of RR 2, Wingham, the groom's brother. A reception followed at a local restaurant where the tables were decorated with red roses. Following a wedding trip to the United States, Mr. and Mrs. tenPas are residing at RR2, Wingham. Institute hosts euchre party BRUSSELS — The Majes) tic Women's Institute hosted its monthly euchre party last Tuesday evening with eight tables in play. Mrs. Ruby Steiss extended a welcome. The winners were: high lady, Emelyne Steiss; high man, Marguerite Sanderson- (playing anderson(playing as a man); low lady, Edith Baker; low man; Jane DeVries' (playing as a man) ; most lone hands, Ross Cunningham; traveling prize, Emelyne Steiss and lucky cups, Mrs. Sanderson, Mel Jacklin, Annie Engel and Albert Quinn. A delicious lunchrought an enjoyable evening to a close.
