Running in the rain and the mud, Mite girls Julie Lisle and Jenny Deslauriers placed second and' sixth while the Mite team as a whole placed fourth. BANTAMS The Pepsis and the Seven Ups lead the league with 21 points, followed by the Cokes with 19, the Walter Root Beers with 12, the Coke Classics yvith 11 and the Cream Sodas with 7. Lori Morrison had the girls' high single of 136 and thelhigh double of 228. Paul Deslauriers had the boys' high single of 88 and the high double of 176. Other games over 80 were rolled by Lori Morrison 92; Lesley Pike 101, 98; Melissa Bieman 96; Ansley Simpson 81; Carolyn Pike 90; Lindsay Johnston 90; Jeremy Hickey 84; Ricky Cleghorn 82 and Paul Deslauriers 88. JR. BANTAMS & BANTAMS — The Snorkslead-the league with 23 points, followed by the Pussy Cats with 20, the Wuzzels with 16, the GI Joes with 13, the Muppet Babies with 11 and the Masks with 7. Sherry Dekker had the high single of 152 for the girls and the high double of 293., while Danny McPherson had the boys' high single of 175 and the high double of 269. Other games of 125 and over were rolled by Kerri McGrath 131; Sherry Dekker 141; Ivan Skin 131 •and Daryl Marks 131. SR. JUNIORS & SENIORS The Fuzzies lead the league with 28 points, followed by the TLCs with 23, the Commandos with 22, the Alphabata, with 20, the' Nimrods with 18 and the Slinkys with 15. Lori Tiffin had a good day with the girls' high single of 302 and the high triple of 676. Scott Neil had the boys' high single of 215 and the high triple of 605. NIGHT LADIES Michele's'Monks are in the lead with 36 points, followed by Nancy's Nuns with 31, Faye's Friars with 29, Lila's Laymen with 26, Jean's Deacons with 24' and Juanita's Rabbis with 22. Luanne Kerr had the high single of 295 and Jean King , had the high triple of 714. Other top bowlers were • Joanne Harrison 247; Nancy O'Neil 240; Janet Storey 232; Mary Lee 231 and Bonnie Cleghorn 224. BELG.RAVE LADIES Top bowlers were Hilda Vincent 217, 192; Marj Coultes 195, 182 and Dini Nethery 197. YBC holds tournament Wingharn's Youth Bowlin Council League held a bring a -buddy tournament Sunda at the local bowling alley. Winners in the differen divisions were: PeeWee Mike Remington ,and Ryan with 269; • Bantam, Kerr Cleghorn and her friend, Tracy, 432; Juniors, Lori Tiffin and Jennifer with 452 and Seniors, Tammy Cleghorn and Barb, 342. These winners all received crests and trophies. All YBC bowlers who took part will —rreceiv-e—crests find'allbud- dies received participation certificates. TUESDAY EVENING Team standings show Cathy's Chipmunks with 18 points; Dilys' Dagwoods with. 29; - Linda's Little Rascals, 38; Pam's Polka- roos, 27; Shari's Shirttails, 18, and Terry's Mrs. -Ts, 38. Linda Hickey bowled the 231 'ladies' high single and Susan Pegg had the 547 high triple. The 294 men's high single was rolled by Kevin Hickey and Greg Storey had the 745 high triple. Other high games were bowled by Jim Moran, 278; Bob Pegg, 234; Rod Hickey, 219, 229, 221; Joe Brophy, 229, and Colleen Moran, 223, • SENIOR LADIES High doubles were bowled by Catherine Campbell, 306; Agnes Farrier, :391; Elda Coultes, 323; I,.enita Statia, 305; ,Ida Rooney, 304; and g ' Vera Moffatt 318 COFFEE KLATCH Y Jean King had the high game of 273. Shirley Storey bowled 220 and 249; Muriel Irvine, 194, and Doris Remington, 193. There will be no bowling on Nov. 11. Super X Atoms down Listowel' The Wingham Super X Atoms started the season off on_ a__ winning__note___.bs downing Listowel by.a count of 6-2 recently. ' ' Ivan Skinn led the team with a hat, trick and two assists. Marc Poulin added a pair of goals and Brendan Magee added a single. Assists. went to Todd Harrison and Jason Hickey with two and Magee and Mike Drost with one each. The team is playing in the Wellington -Perth Minor Hockey League this year and its opposition will consist of two teams from Listowel, as well as teams from Milverton, and Monkton. Players, on t_he_Wingham ...____ team include Matt Elmslie and Terry Thynne in goal, Gord Welch, Andrew Sleegers and Bradley Hunter on defence and forwards Skinn, Drost, Magee Hick- ey, Poulin and Harrison. The team is sponsored by Super X Drugs and is coached by Larry Welch, Brian Elmslie and Al Har- rison. The boys are looking for- ward to an enjoyable season. Young athletes win cross-country medals The rain did little to dampen the spirits of the young Wingham athletes running in the Canadian Cross -Country Champion- ships at Etobicoke on the weekend. It rained throughout the competition. The course lay in water and all the athletes will remember the long, winding climb to the top of the hill where the finish was located. • More than 1,000 athletes took part in the Mite, Tyke, Atom and Bantam age divisions and the Wingham youngsters earned some excellent results. The Mite girls turned in outstanding performances., with- Julie Lisle coming second overall• and Jenny Deslauriers coming in sixth. Both girls earned medals for Brownie Corner Both the Brownies and their leaders dressed in costume for the Second Wingham Brownies Hallowe'en party last week. Our mystery witch was Mrs. Schedler, Singing Owl, who taught us a Hallowe'en song and read us a spooky story which the Brownies enjoyed acting out. Sunny Owl showed .the Brownies how to make a spider dangling from its web. Our party mom, Donna Skinn, served us cheese popcorn and apple juice. Snow Drop, Amy Bateman, read the Brownies a little witch story and Anita Massey, a visiting Guide helper, played a fruit basket. Thank you to everyone for making our party fun for all. At our last regular meeting, the Tweenies learned to braid,. the second - year Brownies made clothes scrapbooks and the third - year Brownies finished their. macrame projects. Tammy Thynne was • our visiting Guide helper. We also are very pleased to welcome two new Brownies: Kendra is a, Tweenie and Kim, her sister,' is a second -year Brownie from the Belgrave Brownies. Lisa Inwood received her Hostess Badge. Howick Atoms edge Wallace In a well -played game last Sunday evening in Howick, the WOAA Atoms defeated Wallace by a count of 3-1. Leading the Howick attack with his second hat trick of the year was Kyle Wheeler, while assists' went to Danny MacGregor, Sam Double- day, Mark Dosman and Michael Greig. Ryan Smith scared. for - Wallace, assisted by Chris Long and Henry Acres. ATOM ANTICS — These two teams are very evenly matched, which should pro- vide some good, close games this' season. placing in the top six. The Mite team, composed of Julie and Jenny as well as Ansley Simpson and Jenni Kerr, placed fourth overall in its division for the team title. Wendy Finley and Carolyn Pike were also on the Mite team. In other divisions, Shane Pegg placed 28th in a strong field of Tyke boys and Adam Knight placed 32nd among the Mite boys. In the Atom girls' division, Lisa Chapman was 86th, Shannon Simpson 97th, Marlaine Lindsay 102nd, Michelle MacDonald 109th and Julie Henry 111th• in a field of over 150 competitors.
