Hosts of • the event ar'e Andrea Martin and Martin Short, - comedy performers with the Second City group, and among the guest per: formers will be superstar Tina Turner, the Canadian Brass, Bryan. ,Adams and Luba. • Nominated in the female vocalist category. are Lee' Aaron, Lisa Dalbello, Luba, Carole Pope and Anne Murray.. In the pop male competition are Bryan - Adams, Bruce Cockburn, Gowan, Corey Hart and Kim Mitchell. Nominated as. top group are Helix, Honeymoon ute Parachute Club,• Strange Advance and Triumph. In the country music category,' Anne Murray competes with Laura Vin- son, Marie Bottrell, Carroll Baker and Anne Lord. Country male award is a fight among Valdy (hardly country! ); Terry Carisse Who took a lot of the awards at the country music a wards' show earlier this year, Ronnie Hawkins., Terry Sumsion and Murray McLauchlan. New groups dominated that category. The Mercey Brothers, who won the country award from' the Country Music Association., weren't even nominated,_ though ' the longtime winners, Family Brown, were: Instrumental artists. no:minatied are Canadian Brass, Hagood Hardy, Frank Mills, Spitfire Band and Zamfir and composers honored are Adams and Hart, Luba, Jim Vallance, David Foster and Eddie Sch- wartz. Nominated for top Canadian single are "A Criminal Mind" by Gowan; ."'Black Cars" by Gino Vannelli; "Let it Go" ' by Luba; "Never Surrender" by Hart and "Run To You" by Adam's. For international single, it's a race among "Careless Whisper" by .Wham!; "I Just Called To Say I Love You" by Stevie Wonder; "I Want To Know What Love Is" by Foreigner; "Shout" by Tears for Fears. and "Wake Me Up Before You Go-go" by Wham!.
