HOWICK, TURNBERRY
& WINGHAM •
( Two seats available)
ART CLARK -
For the past three years I
have had the pleasure of
serving on the Huron County
Board of Education as a
trustee for Howick, Turn-
berry and Wingham.
1 have resided in the Town
of Wingham since 1971 and
presently am employed as
an engineer and owner of
Maitland Engineering
Services Ltd. I am married
to Janet and have one son,
Paul, who attends the F. E.
Madill Secondary School.
Since being elected in 1982,
1 have served on various
committees of the board.
Two Years were spent on the
personnel committee and
one on the education com-
mittee. I served as chairman
of the ad hoc committee for
computers and the ad hoc
committee for the develop-
mentally handicapped. I
have represented the board
on the Special Education
Advisory Committee for
three years and have served
on several staffing and
personnel -related com-
mittees.
Two years ago I was
elected vice chairman of the
board, a position which I
hold at this time.
The experience I have
gained over the past three
years will allow me to make
a significant contribution to
the discussion of issues
which will fac., the board in
the future,
Some of these issues
concern pre -Kindergarten
education ( three to five year-
olds), continuation and ex-
pansion of special education
in the secondary schools,
personnel matters and, of
course, the extension of
funding to Roman Catholic
separate schools by the
provincial government.
Space does not allow me to.
expound on my thoughts on
these matters. However I
would indicate that I will
approach these future issues
from the same basis of
common sense I have tried to
use in dealing with past
issues.
I have appreciated the
support of the ratepayers of
Howick, Turnberry and
Wingham and solicit their
continued support at the
polls on Nov. 12.
BRIAN JEFFRAY-
Hello, citizens of Howick,
Turnberry and - Wingham.
My name is Brian Jeffray,
I'm a candidate to represent
these municipalities as
Huron County school board
trustee.

RE-ELECT
ART CLARK
Trustee
Huron County
Board of Education
The next three years will be extremely
challenging for the Huron County
Board of Education
- the move toward full funding
- the probable further decline in student
enrollment
- the present dismal economic outlook
= the need to improve the quality of education
- the increasing salary demands • •
- the need fora better public understanding
-of what the board is doing.
hese are only a few of the problems
We must exercise restraint and
rtain we get full value fore very'
dollar spent in our school system.

lyfke all parents, 1 want the
best education possible for
our children. Therefore we
want our tax dollars spent
effectively, to maintain the
high quality of education this
area has enjoyed in the past.
If elected to the position o
trustee I would encourag
the board of education to ge
the most out of every to
dollar spent to minimize th
burden the education taxes
place on the municipal tax
payer. I feel that one of th
most important aspects o
the job would be acting as
liaison between citizens o
the area and the Huron
County Board of Education
to ensure concerns are deal.
with quickly and effectively
- keeping lines of com-
munication open.
My qualifications for this
job, stem from a commit-
ment and experience gained
from other community pro-
grams to which I have
dedicated time. Some of
these responsibilities in-
clude: chairman of the
Huron County 'Dairy Herd
Improvement Association;
executive of the Huron
County Federation of
Agriculture; director of the
Teeswater Agricultural
Society; president of the
Turnberry Township
Federation of Agriculture;
'vice president of the Student
Council of . F. E. Madill
Secondary School. I also
have participated in night
school classes and numerous
short courses on subjects
such as computers, financial
management, employee
relations and • public
speaking.
I feel I can contribute'a lot
to this position and would
appreciate, your vote, in the.

Education has alway
been important in the Wilson
family. My mother was a
teacher for many years and
my father served as trustee
for Howick Township and
later for the Listowel High
School Board.
f I pledge to the residents of
e Howick, Turnberry and
t Wingham that if elected I

e the standard of education in
Huron County, while

opinions and give con -
f sideration to each issue.
My daily contact with the
farming -and business
community will give me the
contact with parents,
students and teachers to help
me make objective
decisions. If elected I
promise to serve openly,
honestly and diligently on
your behalf.
MORRIS,
EAST WAWANOSH
& BLYTH
(One seat available)
JOHN ELLIOTT -
I. am a 45 -year-old in-
surance broker, married and
residing in the Village of
Blyth where I have been in
business for 25 years. '
I have served on the Huron
County Board of Education
for 11 years, during which
time '1 have served as
chairman of the board and
chairman of all standing.:
committees. I am, also the
member for the Huron'
County Board of Education.
onthe Ontario Public School
Trustees' Association,
serving as vice chairman of
the operations committee
and budget committee in the
past year.
The biggest challenge in
the upcoming three-year
term will be maintaining•the
current excellent level of
educational facilities in the
county in the face,.of the
provincial government's
decision to extend separate
school funding. This will take
experience and knowledge of
the system to make the most
of limited funding resources.
In addition, the board has
recently entered into an
• agreement with the Ministry
of Correctional Services to
operate a. secondary school
at the Bluewater Centre.
This will also take continued
planning and cooperation, as
do all functions involving the
education ° of our young
people.
JOHN 0. GAUNT-
, Edixc-atin-n is an area that
always has and always will
interest me. I see it as a'
process that historically has
changed and must forever
continue to change in
response to public demand.
With due regard for the
basics, which must be
carried on, I feel we must
continually move ahead. •
This must be done without
I ever forgetting the present
economic climate. A large
portion of our ratepayers
e have taken a sizeable cut in
a pay in recent years. This
I must be considered when
setting budgets and when
s, negotiating salaries and
wages.
"Restraint" and "value
for the dollar" are becoming
more and more important.
This . cannot be over-
emphasized.
I teel there has been a lack
of communication between
the board of -education and
the general public. School
taxes constitute a large
portion of our tax bills. Too
many of us don't 'know how
the board is spending our
money. I think the board's
deliberations should be
publicized more extensively.
I seek to represent the
public school supporters in
Blyth, Morris and East
Wawanosh on• the Huron
County Board of Education. I
am 42 years old and have
been farming full-time for 17
years. Iattended elementary
school in East Wawanosh
and graduated from the
Wingham District High
School in 1962 and the Uni-
versity of Guelph in 1966. I
was a field man for the OFA
for two years; was a director
of the Belgrave Credit
Union; was a Nuffield
Scholar (1973) doing six
months , of study on
agriculture in the U. K., and
am a councillor of the UCO
at Belgrave.
If elected I will endeavor
to work in your best in-
terests:
