Worship services for the month of November will be held in Chalmers Presbyter- ian Church. F. E. Madill Secondary School students were given a holiday Monday as it was Professional Development Day for the teachers. Present for the celebration were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Nicholson, Ryan and Craig of Egrnondville, Mr. and Mrs. Jim deBoer, Michael, Matthew and Alicia. Mrs. Norma Rintoul returned home from Rich- mond Hill where she visited a week with Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Campbell and Heather. While there she helped celebrate Heather's seventh birthday. Guests present were Mr.' and Mrs. Dave Oberholtzer, Jeffery and Julie of Waterloo, and Mr. and Mrs. Mack Cardiff, Brussels. The Wingham Advance.'d'imes, Oct. 30, 1985—Page 3 Blue & white highlights Londesboro ceremony A pretty blue and white color scheme provided the setting in Londesboro United Church at seven o'clock on October 5, for the marriage ceremony uniting Marilyn Elizabeth Archambault of Auburn and Robert Earl Johnston of Londesboro. Bows with little blue flowers and baby's breath marked the guest pews and matching flowers decorated the candelabra where lighted tapers flickered beneath protective globes. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ar- chambault of Auburn and Mr. and Mrs: Frank John- ston, Londesboro. Rev. Dave Snihur performed the ceremony and special music was provided by Miss Lisa Bosman who sang "Because", "The Rose" and "Evergreen". She was accompanied by organist Miss Lisa Duizer. The mothers of the bride and groom each lit candles and follciwing the wedding vows, the bride and groom lit the wedding candle using the candles previously lit by the mothers. Former minister returns for anniversary service A minister at the Wingham United Church from 1968 until 1981, Rev. Barry Passmore, 'now at Knox United Church, Owen Sound, returned Sunday to help the Wingham United Church celebrate the 122nd an- niversary of its congrega- tion. A full church greeted ,Mr: Passmore at the morning service. He chose scripture from the 12th chapter of St. John's Gospel and spoke about Christ's Availability, saying that many try to find the historic Christ but He. lives today and is available in the present for those who need Him and call upon Him. The senior choir, under the leadership of organist Hap Swatridge, sang an anthem, with Leanne Simpson singing a solo part. The junior choir sang two MATERIAL GIRLS BELMORE — The fifth meeting of the Material Girls 4-H club was opened by the president, Brenda Dickson, with the pledge. Following the pledge, the memhers had roll call, describing what kind of seam they used on their outfits. They held a vote to determine who would be'the • comm -en ta-tor • at— t h'e achievement 'night in Mildmay and the results will be announced at the next Meeting. Kelly Leachman started reading in the activity hooks and Lori McKague, last week's secretary, read the minutes of the last meeting. Then Lori passed the secretary's job to Kelly. - The girls were shown how to put ribbing on a T-shirt. Lori- McKague and Sandy Klose supplied and served the lunch. The meeting ended at 9 p.m. THE SILLY SEWERS Whitechurch—The Silly Sewers met October 23 at the• home of Mrs., Wadrst.p,.._all__ sixmembers repeating the pledge. Roll call, '; tell what you learned about altering your pattern", was well answered and the minutes of the last meeting were read hy Karen Elliott. Ideas for book covers and a fashion show were to he brought to the next meeting. Mrs. Elliott discussed sewing and finishing a seam, fitting, steps on stretching as. one sews and piping. Mrs. Wardrop taught the girls the parts of a sewing machine, how to do different kinds of seam finishes and how to press knits. lie----g•rr••-Fs---_me.t.�__�gai.rt__- -Saturday at Mrs. Elliott's home, Five memhers an- swered the roll call, "shpw the sample you did of a suitable seam finish for your garment": The minutes were read by Kim Laidlaw, Mrs. Wardrop talked about rugger pants and various trim' for action wear. She also demonstrated two different types of hems. Mrs. Elliott demonstrated one kind of hem and how to sew a ribbing, numbers, led by Mrs. Brenda Schedler, with Mrs. Winona Thompson ac- companying. Rev. J. Rea Grant, minister of the church, led the congregation in worship, About 90 attended a brench at the Wingham Golf and Curling Club where friend- ships were renewed and memories relived with the Passmores. His evening sermon title was "Let Us Love One Another". He chose scripture from John, chapter 15, and spoke of Christ's commission to his followers to "love one another". He stressed that Christian love is not a passionate, fading, con- ditional or judgmental love, but a love that lasts through all difficulties and exists through alfconditions. Special -music . at the evening service was 'provided by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holton of Brantford, music educators with the Brant County Board of Education. They led a rousing . hymnsing . and played- several beautiful organ -piano duets during the service. Following the evening service, lunch was served in the Sunday School room, where friends from his former church and other churches in town reminisced. with the Passmores The bride was given .in marriage by her mother and father and chose a floor - length gown of nylon sheer with a long train. Theebodice was trimmed with em- broidered -lace and pearls and the long sleeves had layers of ruffles at the wrists. She carried a cascade bouquet of red roses and white stephanotis, ac- cented with baby's breath, pearls, ivy and a sprig of heather. Seed pearls covered the crown of her white hat which held an attached veil. In sleeveless blue polyester .dresses with matching jackets were the attendants. Mrs. Don Parker of Goderich was her sister's matron of honor; brides- maids were the groom's sister, Jeanette Johnston, and two friends of the bride, Sharon Keniher and Cheryl Fraser; and junior brides- maids were nieces of the bride, Lorri Archambault and Sarah Parker. Each attendant wore a matching blue hat and pearls, a gift from the bride. They carried white fans with blue and pink roses, baby's breath and ivy. ushered by the bride's brother, Rick Archambault of Auburn, and two friends of the groom, Daryl Shobbrook and Denny Fothergill. The bride's nephew, Michael Archambault of Barrie, was ringbearer. The blue and white theme continued for the reception which was held at the Blyth Community Centre, At- tending were guests from The groom's cousin, Crystal Hulley of Clinton, was flower girl. She wore a long white nylon dress and carried a fan with blue arid pink roses, baby's breath and ivy. The duties of best man were performed by a friend of the groom, Mike Gerrits of Clinton, and guests were Toronto, Oshawa, Barrie, Wingham, Blyth, Goderich and Auburn. Honored guests were the groom's paternal grandparents. The bride's mother wore a full-length gown of rose nylon sheer over rose polyester, with jacket and hat to match, black ac- cessories and a, corsage of cream roses edged with rose. The groom's mother chose a street -length dress , of turquoise polyester, with black accessories and a corsage of yellow roses. ° For travelling to Niagara Falls and the United States, the bride wore a grey suit with red blouse, red ac- cessories and a corsage of red roses. They will reside in . Stratford. Prior to her marriage the bride was honored at a community shower at Knox United Church, Auburn; a girlfriends' shower at the home of Jeanette Johnston; a shower hosted by the 4-H members in Auburn and a relatives' shower at the home of Mrs. Ken Vodden. CALGARY WEDDING—Barbara Maria Piwin and Steven Ross Pletch were united in marriage at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Calgary, on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 3 o'clock. The double -ring ceremony was perfor- med by Father McNally. Parents of the bride are 'Mr:. and Mrs. Bill .Piwin of Calgary and the groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Tom Pletch of Brussels. The newly- married couple will be visiting in Brussels where an open wedding reception will •be held in their honor on Nov. 9 at 9 p.m. in the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre.
