(Staff Photo) Mrs. Wayne King hosts Ladies' Guild GORRIE - St. Stephen's Anglic.an Church Ladies' Guild met recently at the home of Mrs. Wayne King. President Mrs. Jasper Farrish opened the meeting with a prayer of general thanksgiving. Mrs. Marvin Bosetti read Psalm 100 and part of Psalm 111. The membership then par- ticipated' in a Thanksgiving Circle. ' It was announced that the bishop will participate in the confirmation service. on November 10 at St. Stephen's Church at 11 a.m. The next luncheon will be held Thursday, October 24. The Gift of life is thought for UJCW. The McIntosh-Belmore • UCW . held its October. meeting last Wednesday at the McIntosh Church. Mrs., Eileen Johann, president, _-open-ed-the-meeting with -the thought, ."My life is God's gift to me; what I do with it is my gift to God". Harvest • time is Thanks- giving 'time, was the theme for devotions led by Mrs. Eunice Newans. Mrs. Betty Darling gave an interesting r-eadi-r,g on bruit -customs and ways of life as the study. The roll call, a Thanks- giving thought, was an- swered by 13 members. Mrs. Johann conducted the business portion of the meeting. The UCW bazaar will be held this Wednesda 17E172".3; at 9:00 p.m. in the McIntosh Church.. A short skit, "Something to Think About", presented by four members, was an amusing and thought- provoking play on steward- ship. The reading was given by Mrs. Hilda Dustow, "Why Farm Wives Age Fast". Prayer by the president brought the meeting to a close. Lunch was served by Mrs. Ellen Harkness and Mrs. Sally Harper. Legion euchre A total of 13 tables were in play . at Monday evening's euchre party held at the Wingham Legion Hall. Nell Johnston -.__.was -.-high- -lady_... John L. Currie was high man, Mary Chamney was low lady and Eileen Miller (playing as a man) was low man. Several draw prizes were awarded and the next euchre will be held Nov. 4. new recording secretary will be Mrs. William Cane, replacing Mrs. Bosetti. Mrs.. Gerald Koebel will be in charge of advertising. Elections' for all other positions will be held at the November meeting. The Christmas meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. William Bennett.,• On behalf of Rev. William Gray, Mrs. Gray -thanked the membership for their work on• the harvest supper and the teachers' luncheon. Rev. Harry Jennings closed the meeting with Grace and luncheonwas served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Ronald Bennett. The mystery gift, donated by Mrs. Jennings, was won by Mrs. Farrish. The next meeting will be held November ,13 at the home of Mrs. Nellie King. The Wingham Advance -Times, Oct. 23, 1985 -Page 3 C ,, .L la {• les meet in church The Catholic Women's League of Sacred Heart Church, Wingham, met last Monday evening in the church basement with nine members present. The meeting was opened by the spiritual convener, Sybil Straker, who spoke on women of the Bible. The secretary, Joanne O'Neil, read the minutes of the September meeting, adopted by Mrs. Straker and seconded by Kathy Weach- ter. Shirley Marklevitz read the treasurer's report, adop- ted by Vera Schmidt and seconded by Teresa Foxton. President Mary McGlynn reminded the ladies of the upcoming meeting on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. when a guest speaker is corning from Survival Through Friend- shij:p House in Goderich. Everyone is welcome, j' A motion was made and carried to donate $50 to the Voice for Life in Wingham. Mrs. McGlynn mentioned that the ladies of the CWL have convened five funerals this year. Tickets are on sale at Standard Trust in Wingham for the draw at the upcoming bazaar. There will be cash prizes of $100, $50 and two $25 prizes. The bazaar is scheduled for Nov. 2 at 1:30 in the Wingham Armouries. Mrs. McGlynn and Mrs. Marklevitz gave a short report about the deanery meeting they attended Oct. 16. They said the theme of the meeting was "Give of yourself". They said if you want to make a better place start with self prayer, read the Bible, the League prayer and the League promise. Mrs. Foxton and Ilene Templeman will place the wreath at the Remembrance Day service on Nov. 11. The meeting was closed by Mrs. Foxton and followed by the League prayer. Muffins and coffee were enjoyed, served by the social convener, Mrs. Schmidt. Former minister is anniversary speaker The Wingham United Church has invited its for- mer minister, Rev. K. Barry Passmore, to be the an- niversary speaker at its services this Sunday. Mr. Passmore, who served the Wingham congregation from 1968 to- the autumn of 1981, is now at Knox United Church in Owen Sound. While in this community he took an active interest in the United Church television program, "Singtime", and in minor hockey. He and his wife Mary Margaret con- ducted the church's junior choir. Mr. Passmore will speak at both the morning and evening services. Special music for the, evening service will be provided by Frank. and Adera Holton of Brantford. Both professional musicians, they served for many years with the Brant County Board of Education in that field. They also have done ex- tensive work as church organists and choir leaders. For the service they will lead a hymn -sing and provide a variety of piano - organ instrumental duets. Mrs. Holton is a sister of Mrs. Cecil Wittich, now of Listowel but formerly of Blyth. A number from the congregation will be at- tending a noon brunch with the Passmores at the Wingham Golf and. Curling Club. There also will be an occasion to socialize during a coffee hour following the evening service. We give care for those who can not care for themselves.
