The Model A's and -the Model
T's look as good as the day they were
bought. The bodies gleam and the motors
purr while the proud owners stand nearby
watching as the crowd gathers to admire
some of the remnants of a bygone era.
It's a scene stra ,ght out of the antique car
show at the Threshermen's reunion which
brings together antique car owners and
audiences alike to see the working pieces of
automobile history.
The antique car show offers an added
dimension to the reunion. The show has
thrived over the years with car owners from
all over Ontario bringing their prized
antique cars to the show. For the past three
years, a trophy given by Clinton Auto Parts
to the top antique car at the show has given
owners an added , bit of prestige for
participating.
According to organizer Gordon Radford,
the show has been attracting 30 or so antique
and classic (post -1930) cars in the past. He
expects even More cars at this year's show.
"We hope to have more out this year.
Again, we're looking forward to a good
show." '
Last year, the trophy was won by Murray
Hall of Wingham with a 1914 Model T Ford
Touring. In 1983, the trophy went to Harold
Butler with a 1926 Chev, says Mr. Radford
who has been in charge of the ,show for the
past six years.
'The trophy is awarded by three judges,
one of which was the winner of the trophy
the year before. After a year, the winner
receives a smaller trophy to keep.
He describes antique car restoratation as
a rich min's game. "It°s nothing to spend
$15,000 to 20,000, he says. But mostly it's a
time consuming job filled with hours of
mechanical toil and endless searches for the
proper parts. °
Mr. Radford says he will enter his prized
antique car in the show again this year. He's
had the Model A Ford complete with a
rumble seat for the past 15 years. He. found,.
touch to his surprise, that the parts were
relatively easy to locate for the Model A's.
He also did some of the restoration work on
the car himself.
He admits he ,doesn't show the car as
much as some owners of antique cars. He
• did, however, enter it in a recent parade in
Niagara Falls. -
