Ice raises Antarctica
Because of its ice,'Antarti-
ca, is the world's highest
continent; without the ice, it
would be the lowest. At the
South Pole the ice is about
3,000 meters (almost 2 miles)
thick. The deepest ice, re-
cently discovered, is 4,700
meters thick.
