HENSALL SPRING SHOW WAS
A, 'RIG SUCCESS,
One of the best Spring: Shows ever
put on by the organization, was held
InsHensall on Tuesday of this week.
'The weather, although .a •trifle raw
and cold,proved goodeneugll to bring
out a large crowd of enthusiaet$
from our village, the surrounding
country and the neighboring towns,
who witnessed one -of the best SPring
shows ever held in this community.
The majority of the • classes listed
were well represented'and.keen com-
petition took place in several events.
The judge, Mr, Douglas,, of Caledou-
ia, at times had quite a task determ-
ining the better of two entrants, but
everyone was fully satislied with his
decisions. Mr. Harry•$mith, of. Ex-
eter, who judged the .cattle also gave
decisions which suited all the exhib-
itorsthe chief of whith were Mr.
Wm. Pepper and Mr. Bert Peck.
Several special cuPS were donated
by different citizens and these were
all 'won throughconsiderable com-
petition, the winning horses being of
excellent type ectiad appearance, The

A very inter,esting league meeting
was held on Monday evening last.
Mr. Chas. -Redmond took the chair
and Mr. S. Bueglas took .the topic.

recitation by Miss Hattie Whiteside.
The annual congregation meeting
of the Methodist church waaS -held
on Tuesday evening last. Quite a
large number were in attendance and
reports from the secretarys •of -the
differnt departments of the church
were given and proved quite satisfac-
tory. ,Ot the close of the busiaess
part of the meeting lunch was serv-
ed and the congregation sport a
social half hour together.
Some of the ratepayers of Hensall
are probably wondering just how
the Hydro system of oar vilffige
gtands, • and they no doubt will be
glad to hear that the operation for
the past • year shows a surplus of
$928.06 in addition to providing for
depreciation to the extent 0 $34500

report and would urge our citizens

important figure occurred On Mon-
day night at the home of Mr. and
Mrs.. Weston Horne when Miss Cora
Bell, bride of this week, was present-
ed with a kitchen shower, by about
three dozen of her lady friends, who
had gathered together for the :eYen-
-ing to do her. honor. %When Miss
Bell entered the parlor she was led
to -a chair which was covered with
white and beautifully decorated with'
pink flowers and ribbons, While Miss
May Heywood played Mendohlsone:

Mission Circle, of which Miss Bell is
a valued member; and little Miss
Olive and Ruby Johns presented her
with a handsomeambrella Which the
bride -elect was asked to. open, as she
did so a large number of cards drop-
ped out .on which were written dir-
ections for finding the articles gath-
ered for the shower, which were hid-
den in various parts of the house and
Which she proceeded to collect. The
gifts, ranged in size from a bed 'quilt
and wash:tab to small utensils indis-
perisible in a. well ordered kitchen,
quite a number beingfine aluinimini
and pyrex. , Although taken by sur-
prise, Miss Bell carried off the situ-
ation gracefully and made -a very
suitable reply, expressing her grati-
tude for the tangible form of her
friends' best wishes: The remainder
of the evening was spent in music
and_ conversation and after a whole-.
smile lunch aiaas•served, all joined in
singing "Auld Lang Syne" and de-
parted for their homes after avvery
enjoyable evening. •
