Seniors' Day Centre News By Rita Rice The community is invited to attend our annual meeting this Thursday, June 20, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Reports will be tabled. and the guest speaker this year is .Dr. Hannah A Fox, a researcher of Alzheimer's Disease. Dr. Fox is affiliated with the University of Western Ontario at London. The topic is of great interest and has become more "high profile" in the last few years. It is a subject many people would find interesting and those interested should take this opportunity to hear Dr Fox speak this Thursday at approximately 2 p.m. June is Senior Citizens' Month and the day. centre and. the Wingham Seniors' Happy Gang are hosting an information afternoon next Friday, June 28, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. This event is being sponsored by the Wingham branch of the Bank of Montreal. The day has been designed to let seniors and other interested people know " what services in the com- munity are offered to senior citizens. Cake and refresh- ments also will be served and door prizes awarded. Again this summer the day centre will be taking in three performances at the Blyth Summer, Festival, The first Bridal shower is held for Brenda TenPas BRUSSELS — Approxi- mately 100 friends, neigh- bors and relatives gathered last Wednesday evening in the basement of Melville Presbyterian Church for a miscellaneous shower for Brenda TenPa's before her upcoming marriage to Chris Ryan. Carol TenPas played some appropriate music on the pia no-whiie'-the-guests 'were- arriving. Mrs. Joanne King played the piano and Karla King sang as the honored guests were being ushered to the front. They were: the bride-to-be; maid of honor, Kim Zimmer; bridesmaids, Carol and Judy TenPas, Sandy Merkley and Jill McCutcheon; the mothers, Mrs. Mary TenPas and Mrs. Ann Ryan and the grand- mothers, Mrs. TenPas, Mrs. Skinner and Mrs. Ryan. Mrs. Donna Knight was the emcee for the evening program, which included a piano and violin duet by Mrs. Phyllis Mitchell and Mrs. Marjory Humphries of Walton. Mrs. Mary TenPas played the harp. Margaret Shortreed of Walton sang a solo, "The Rose", ac- companied by Mrs. King. Miss Zimmer read the address to Miss TenPas before the bride -elect opened her many beautiful and useful gifts for which she thanked everyone. Lunch was served to bring the evening to a close. one, "Polderland", will be viewed July 4. Anyone in- terested in attending these plays is asked to call the centre at 357-1440 or 357-1445 for more information. The day centre has hired June Stamper of RR 1, Bluevale, for a period of 10 weeks during the summer. June begins her employment this Monday. Her position has been made possible through an Experience '85 grant from the government. • This week the day centre has been fortunate to have ,the film, "Something to Celebrate". It is a film which has been shown on television and fs ost appropriate to show this month for Senior Citizens' Month. We always can use craft program volunteers and new, craft ideas for the centre. If anyone in the community has an interest or a talent in this area, please let us know. Don't forget our annual meeting this Thursday, June 20, at 1:30 p.m. at the day centre in the Wingham Armouries with the guest speaker Dr. Fox. BRUSSELS I and II ,The. Brussels..-L-and..I.I. clubs met June 4 for a joint meeting of the `:Score with Safety" club at the library: The two clubs had their own opening exercises before journeying to the fire hall at 8 p.m. where the girls were met by Howard Ber- nard and John Pennington for a meeting on fire safety. The girls learned the main elements of fire, different types of fire extinguishers The ni'en a them and how to use properly. iso told the 4-H members the dif- ference between smoke and 'Beat defectors -and about safety around wood stoves. It all was very interesting. The two men were thanked and presented with a gift before the girls returned' to the library .and closed 'the meeting with the 4-H motto, "Learn to do by doing". The "Drive Safely" meeting was held last Wednesday at the library and once again took the form of a joint meeting. The girls learned about signs, seat- belts and hand signals. The guest speaker for the evening was Mrs. Brenda Keffer of Listowel, a police officer. She gave some tips on a driver's responsibilities, as a number of the members are 16. There were some questions asked about children driving three - wheeled vehicles on the road. The girls also talked about motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles. Mrs. Keffer was thanked and presented with a gift. The meeting closed with the motto. J The Wingham Advance -Times, June 19, 1985—Page 3 Ohio resident returns home for her wedding ceremony Kim Yvonne McIntosh of Cleveland, Ohio, came home to Belgrave for a very special day in her life, the day she married Robert John Breyley, also of Cleveland. Lighted pink tapers in candelabra decorated with white gladioli and plum roses surrounded the altar at Knox United Church on Saturday, May, 25, at,.seven o'clock when Rev. John Roberts conducted the ceremony. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McIntosh, RR 5, Brussels, and parents of the. groom are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Breyley of Tennessee. Special music was provided by organist Mrs. Elizabeth Procter, pianist Mrs. Audrey Gleeson, soloist Mrs. Joanne McIntosh and guitarists Miss Mary Vollmer and Miss Rosemary Kraemer. The bride was given in marriage by her father and chose a floor -length gown of silk chiffon. The bodice featured a high neckline with a ruffle edging the sheer off - the -shoulder yoke and long straight sleeves. The full chiffon skirt had several rows of ruffles around the hemline falling into a chapel train. Kim carried a cascade of gardenias, stephanotis and ivy. The bride's honor at- tendant, Mrs. Cathi Kor- vemaker of Wyoming, wore a blue taffeta gown with a ruffle beginning on one shoulder and continuing down one side with several rows edging the hemline. She carried a nosegay of plum roses, pink carnations, blue lilies and baby's breath. Dressed in similarly - styled gownsbut in pink, were the bridesmaids, Miss Heather McIntosh and Miss Janet McIntosh of Brussels and Miss Kelly Drakeof London. They 'carried flowers similar to those carried by the matron of honor. Ushering the guests . to special pews marked by white bows were Tim Naughton, Bob Holous and Nilantha (Sammy) Samar - sera, all of Cleveland. Al Zink of Cleveland was best man. Pink, blue and white predominated at the Wingham Legion Hall where the reception was held. Out- of-town guests attended from June is busy at Callander home BRUSSELS - The United Church held a service at the Callander Nursing Home June 2: The residents en- joyed bowling and gardening June 6 and on June 9 some members from the Walton United Church paid a visit. The nursing home residents were entertained by students from the East Wawanosh Public School June 12. The ' Belgrave Women's Institute hosted a birthday. 'party for the following residents June 13: Ethel Fischer, born on June 4; Oliver Stewart, June 5; Margaret McBrien, June 6; Jack Hamilton and Audrey -Seaton, -June 8 and Adeline Smith, June 13. The nursing home held a yard sale June 15 to- kick off 'Nursing Home Week and the sale was considered a suc- cess: The staff and residents thank 'those who donated to or bought articles at the sale. The Salvation Army conducted the service Sunday and the Circle City Cuties and the Huron Strings provided the music on Monday. Congratulations are ex- tended to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Grant who celebrated their 60th wed- ding anniversary June 17. Gord Harrison aTid his band entertained Tuesday and the Blyth Festival Singers made an appearance today, _Wednesday. Country Hoedown Day is scheduled for Thursday with a pot -luck. supper starting at 4 p.m. Next Monday .:is bake day and therewill be a social day for volunteers June 27. Florida, Toronto, Brampton, Otterville, Dundalk, Han- over, London and Mildmay. An honored guest, Mrs. Vera Gateman, grandmother of the bride, wore a midnight blue dress with a corsage of pink roses. The bride's mother wore a blue polyester dress with lace bodice and pleated skirt and a pink and white cor- sage. The groom's mother wore a beige crocheted dress with a corsage- of mauve roses. The bride and groom will reside in Lakewood, Ohio.
