The first was a 5-0 shutout of the visitors from Chesley as Don Edgar pitched nine innings of no -run ball last Tuesday night.. Edgar recorded three strike -outs en route, to the win while allowing five hits. The second victory was recorded on the road as the BPs came away with a 5-2 win over. Port Elgin 9n Wednesday night. Dave Burns was the winning pitcher, giving up two runs on six hits and fanning seven batters for the victory. The highlight of the game against Chesley came in the four -run fourth inning when consecutive singles by Bob Armstrong, Bob. Pegg and Kevin Coultes loaded the bases. Ron Smith followed with an RBI single to open the scoring. Tom Pegg, not to be out- done, followed with another ,single, this time driving in two runs with Smith goingto Blue Jays open with convincing win The Wingham Tri -County PeeWee Blue Jays defeated Fordwich in their first regular -season game, winning by a 17-3 margin last Wednesday. Chris Martin, John Mac- Donald and Bill McGrath all scored for the Blue Jays to take a 3-1 lead as' Fordwich got a run in the bottom of the first inning. Ian MacKay scored the lone run for Wingham in the second inning before the team scored four more in the third, with Darryl Daw, Denny Chambers, Michael Elmslie and MacKay all crossing the plate. McGrath and Daw added two more runs in the fourth. The biggest inning was the fifth, when Wingham scored five runs, with Martin, MacDonald, Daw, MacKay and Mark Wickhorst all rounding the bases, while Fordwich replied with one After a scoreless sixth inning,Wingham capped off ,the night with two runs in the seventh by McGrath and Elmslie while Fordwich got its third and fingtally in the bottom of the seVerilli. . Wingham then came back with a run in the seventh and four runs on three hits and three walks in the eighth. Doug Petteplace took the loss for Port Elgin, allowing five runs • on six hits while striking out eight. Eric Weatherall was the losing pitcher for Chesley, allowing five runs on 10 hits with three strike -outs. Correction The hot dog days to be held by local hospital staff at the Zehrs plaza in Wingham will be June 6 to 8, not June 13 to 15 as reported in last week's Hospital Shorts. Squirt All -Stars in tournament final The Wingham Squill All - Stars played in their -first tournament of the year last Saturday at Guelph. Teams from Guelph, Pickering, Burlington, Bramalea, Acton, Seven 'Oaks, Unionville and' Wingham took part in the one -day competition. Wingham reached the championship finals against Bramalea, when -rain halted the game in the second in- ning. This game will be replayed in Guelph ,at a time suitable to loth clubs. In the Atom girls' division, Carla Mowbray finished ahead of Jane kteson for top honors, while Ryan Deyell edged Rob MacKay in the Atom boys' group. Anna Sakasov and Leanne Simpson finished one-two in the Bantam girls' division. Wingham scored once in the third inning, three more times in the fourth and ex- ploded for five runs hi the fifth to put the game out of reach. Realizing they were not out of their class in this tournament and recovered from their nervousness, the Wingham boys demon- strated great defence; timely hitting and strong pitching to defeat Unionville 11-0 in the second game. Peter Poulin on the mound was in complete control for the entire game, throwing a two -hitter while recording four strike -outs. Jason Bloemberg led the ,offence with three hits. • The Wingham team was selected from a team of first- year Squirts who play in the Tri -County reague and second -year Squitts who play in the WOAA. Wingham will host the OASA Squirt D championships on the Labor Day weekend. This Saturday the boys will travel to Bramalea to take part in a one -day tour- nament. HMI Fri., Sat. & Sun.
