"The people of Huron County are purchasing out of pocket a much greater proportion of their home- making needs," Mrs. Young told the April 9 anpual meet- ing of Town and Country Homemakers. Statistics presented by Mrs. Young show that 66.4 per cent of Town and Country's expenses are paid by the clients. The remaind- er is paid for by donations, a grant from Huron County and the province. Mrs. Young pointed out that in a city agency, the majority of expenses are paid for with municipal tax dollars and United Way funds. rBelgrave Personal Notes Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Makas of London visited for the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler. Town and Country Homemakers does not have United Way and the responsibility rests entirely on the shoulders of the board to raise funds," Mrs. Young said. Board chairman Thea Trick of Clinton said the charitable agency must re- main financially sound, make available homemak- ing services to Huron County and provide funds for those. who are in need of homemaking but cannot pay the total cost. In January 1985, 27 of the 100 private clients were sub- sidized through fundraising monies and a $33,000 grant for the support of the elderly, Mrs. Young said. Mrs. Trick said the con- tingency fund for those who cannot afford the agency's full rate of $7.35 per hour is in place because the agency recognizes the need. The Ag. society holds meeting BRUSSELS — In the absence of the president, Vice President John McIntosh chaired the meeting of the officers and directors of the Brussels Agricultural Society at the B, M,& G Community Centre April 3. It was decided to cancel the May 25 dance since there will also be a dance at the Legion. The secretary was instructed to plan for a May 1986 dance. May 1 was the date set to sell the lots at the old fair grounds. The sale will start at 7:30 p.m. with Wallace Ballagh as auctioneer, Jeff Cardiff and Wayne Lowe were appointed to the Queen of the Fair committee - and Brian Rutledge, Roy Hanna and Wayne Lowe are on the variety concert committee. 'Competition Competition'in the scare- crow contest has been growing, so first prize will be $10, second prize $5.00 and every other competitorwill receive a silver dollar. ERC appoints mediator for Huron agency's ability to subsidize any client's rate is directly related to the securing of funds," she said. Services increased 29 per cent last year over the 1983 figure. There were 1,839 clients in 1983 and 2,486 clients last year. "The greatest problerr1 the board of directors and my- self as executive director meet each year is raising money to replenish the con- tingency fund which enables us to provide service to many seniors and families who would otherwise be un- able to afford homemaking help," Mrs. Young said. To raise these funds, the agency will continue its annual amaryllis bulb campaign. Only three per cent of the agency's time is spent with "contingency" clients. Bob Shrier of Signal -Star Publishing of Goderich, was the guest speaker of the evening. Talking on human potential, Mr. Shrier said "life gives you time and space". It's up to you to decide how to fill -it," he said.
