Flora Nabrotzky speaks
to JOY Unlimited group
Flora Nabrotzky, a
Teeswater plant and garden
shop owner, addressed
Monday evening's meeting
of JOY Unlimited at St.
Andrew's Presbyterian
Church,. Wingham,. offering.
some helpful hints on spring
planting.
Miss Nabrotzky said
apartment dwellers and
those with small acreages
can have attractive gardens
and enjoy fresh produce all
year round. She suggested
stringing up' any vegetables,
which spread, such as peas,
beans, cucumbers or
tomatoes, to°conserve space.
However she said that would
not work for something like
pumpkins.
Growing vegetables and
herbs together deters pests,
she said, and suggested
planting dill between carrots
or garlic between cabbages
to lessen the problem of
nuisance bugs. Marigolds
planted among vegetables
also will deter pests.
Miss Nabrotzky said she is
a naturalist and prefers
natural fertilizers, such as
manure, or ashes, to chemi-
cals. She cautioned against
over-fertiliiing plants as it
can retard their growth:
Leah English thanked
Miss Nabrotzky and present-
ed her with a gift. A short
singalong followed with Au-
drey McKague at the piano.
Marilyn Lapp gave the
offertory prayer.
Lorraine Clugston in-
troduced the "New Life
Singers", an inspirational
group consisting of Diane
English, Pat Gaunt and
Louise Bloemberg, as well as
their pianist, Julia Mills.
They sang several songs,
interspersed with their own
